Can we please stop using "guitard"?

Ugh. I'm not saying we should "ban" anything. I'm just asking: please don't be a dick, and please don't argue against the accusation that you're being a dick by being even more of a dick. But, then again, no one who would need to be told not to be a dick would listen to some guy on some web forum... lol.
Honestly, douchebag is kind of a weird term too. It's not a good counter example. Think of another?

I hear ya bro, I'm not trying to be a dick and I'm not actually offended by "douche bag", I was making a point that someone could take offense to almost anything. "ugh" sums it all up nicely :dead:

The only reason words become offensive is because an elite group of nannies decide what is right and wrong. Stay out of my life and stop telling me how to live it.

lol… an "elite group of nannies?" Open your eyes and look at the world around you. You'll find nothing but struggles against a-holes who want to exclude, hurt, or even annihilate people because they're women, or come from a different country, or speak in a different language, or have dark skin, or have brains that work in a different way, or don't have sex with the "opposite sex," or because they don't make enough money.

It's obvious. If you can't see it, you're blind. If you can't see that this isn't just a matter of "offense," then you're blind. If you can't see that we're not talking about "nannies" who want to control your life, then you're paranoid. lol.

Are you saying that I'm unable to speak? Why, that's offensive. Dumb is an outdated word that is no longer accepted as an indicator of a speech issue, therefore it should be banned from use and tossed on the trash heap with the rest of the un-PC words they say you're not allowed to use anymore.

See how silly this can get? Oh and the word you're looking for is "true". Because unfortunately it is true.

The term in question is worn out and adds nothing to a discussion, so I choose to scroll down when I see it. Since it isn't being directed towards people with special needs, I am less offended- but perhaps we could be a little more clever and colorful with name-calling?

It's not about being offended. It's about being hurt by the things people say. People who say these things in a cavalier way are setting up a culture where people with mental disabilities keep everything to themselves because they're afraid of being called out, treated like crap, hurt, etc. Seriously: it's about being a dick. lol.

Ha ha, Win!

Keep in mind, once you replace PC no-no with another word that word will be used the same way. Pretty soon the PC police wont let us say "challenged" anymore.

I think people should at least agree that if there is going to be an acceptable line it should be after comedy. Otherwise comedy will die!

It's convenient for you to just say that this is just a matter of "hurt feelings." Have you ever been denied a job because people were calling you "********" behind closed doors? Imagine that, be honest with yourself, and then get back to us about "political correctness."
they can call me anything they want, they dont have to hire me. I have been called ******** by coworkers and my boss and I have diagnosed learning dissabilities (Autism and ADD) i didnt go and get a lawyer or get butthurt i got over it because its just words. I mean whats next, I find any post that says anything bad about fenders offensive so no body can talk badly about fenders.

I wonder if r e t a r d is derived from the Italian word ritard or ritardando which means to slow or decrease the tempo?

Hmmmmm...

I always thought it was funny that on TB you can't be critical of sound engineers, but, using a derogatory nickname for guitarist is perfectly acceptable.

That being said, I could not care less about what a bunch of faceless people on the Internet say about anything, especially, music related.

I suspect they're paranyms. They sound like it.

I used to be in a band that played funk and soul with a white rhythm section, and then turned around and played Sweet Home Alabama with a black singer/keyboard player and a black guitarist. We used to make all kinds if jokes about it on the mic.

If we were playing a funk song that started on bass, the guitar player would say "Oh hell. White guy starting a funk song. Let me come over there and clap to get you started. Come on people, help each other out. White folks, y'all can teach us the chorus to Freebird in a minute."

Then when we got ready to do Sweet Home, I would say "Ladies and gentlemen, do not adjust your television sets. What you are about to see is real." (Cuz, you see, a black guy on guitar was about to start Sweet Home.)

We had a blast and the audience did too. That was up until the early 2000s. These days? No way. Couldn't get away with that at all today. We loved each other like family. We were just having fun. Odds are we would all be arrested for a hate crime in this stupid climate.
Sounds like you guys would have been great fun. But you're right, these days there'd be someone in the audience that would take offence. It really gets up my nose when someone, or group, get offended on behalf of others, quite often when those they are taking offence on behalf of aren't actually offended.

I heard Wild Cherry's "Play That Funky Music" on the radio this morning and that would have been a dead set starter for your band.

One thing that really gets me these days is that it appears to be acceptable for any minority to use certain words in a derogatory manner when referring to a white able-bodied person but if you use a word innocently about any minority, even if the generalisation is true, then the PC brigade want you tarred and feathered.

That's fine, but that doesn't change the fact that people are dicks and need to know they're being dicks. It's not your responsibility if you don't want it. But believe me when I say: words are not "just words."

I really wish people wouldn't hold back so much. I can't seem to get a good idea what's on everyone's mind.

As unpleasant some words may be to hear, to the point of possibly being worrisome, having unrestricted speech does make it easier to sort people out.

I'm against any kind of censorship, provided there isn't a mob mentality that takes over.
