Can we talk about marijuana?

I dont believe that is true, though I wont claim it as fact. I think there are a proportionate amount of studies funded by lobbyists who wish to maintain marijuana's status quo as an illegal class one intoxicant.

right now, it is in their best interest to remain silent.
Ca smokers have done enough to abuse the system, that all anti-marijuana groups have to do is remain silent to gain credibility...

From my own perspective, it is sad that the actions of a few have Ruined it for so many...

This may not be true for the rest of the nation, but CA has been a focal point for other states considering decriminalization

From personal experience.

When i smoked on hours/bi-hourly bases i was lazy.

Then i stopped, for no reason, just stopped. I was still lazy

Now i smoke maybe 10 times a year. Still lazy.

From observation:
Some people are way more productive when they smoke.

Some can't handle it.

Some, I can't really tell the difference.

Addiction:
For me, not really addicting, i never felt like i needed it even though i smoked weed like cigarettes for more then few years. However, you have to remember, some people are more addictive then others.

Do i know people who i can't picture stopping smoking? Yes. Did i think the same about myself and few people i know who are now similar to me (smoke every once in a while)? Hell yes.

It very much depends on a person.

You know, its really not necessary for that woman to maintain the ingrown toenail to keep her "prescription". Getting a medical mrijuana card is as simple as going to a "doctor" and stating one suffers from anxiety. And $40.

Unless you have guns.

If i had a card, I'd be forced to stop going to the gym, now, is that fair i ask you!?!?!!

It's about time Matticus rolled up in this joint (pun intended) and went on a posting frenzy aborgman/Brad Johnson style. It was weird how long it went without a peep. You must have been busy working. :)

Lol. This is what happens when people start fast moving topics on the weekends. Not only was I busy working this morning/afternoon, but then I had to read 16 or 17 pages of BS from both sides of the argument just to get a say in.

And then someone at work put brownies in the break room... (funny, they actually do taste a little "special". I dont know how I had time to post!

It wasnt easy refraining from posting retorts to some pretty bogus misinformation. I would like to quickly address the OP:
I think you should avoid this discussion with your class all together. It is likely to end up much like this thread if your students have any voice whatsoever.

I refer to no studies, and only post on this subject from my own experience. I am comfortable enough with my own ego that I do not expect everyone's experience to relate to mine, nor do I operate under the assumption that your (empirical your) experience is any less valid than mine.

I know its a hard concept to grasp, but not every pothead is a burnt out loser with nothing to contribute to society. Some of have accomplished gret things, others have spent their lives sucking from the government teet. I dont argue for or against legalization. Those who want it, will have an easy enough time getting ahold of it. I also believe it is not likely to see marijuana further restricted in California. Our state is not stupid enough (though some may question that) to give control over the marijuana flow back to the black market.

Having guns is not going to stop someone from getting a card. They dont look you up in the system and say "You own guns. No card for you". Most people with a card dont actually enroll in any govt database, so there wouldnt really be a way of knowing anyhow. Since theyre not in any database stating "Person A has a med mj card" the person who grants permission for a gun license isnt going to know. Now if that person has a card, and then is caught with firearms, the punishment is likely to be much more severe.

Also, why couldnt you have a card and go to the gym? I do.

we had a few fiends try the ultimate in stupid up here

They decided that since it was "medicine" they could smoke it while working. they tried to file civil suit when they were fired... One such person could not understand why none of the local mechanic shops would hire him.

I am not saying that there are not good people who smoke, It is just that the idiots are tthe most memorable when it comes time to vote decriminalization

But on application when you buy a gun, it asks you if you own a card. You answer "no" and then get pulled over with a card, you are going to jail for lying on federal application.

Where else do you work on your guns? I work on my guns at the gym!

It is no longer an issue of statewide legislation. CA assembly bill 1300 granted city, county, and local governments the right to restrict or outright ban cultivation, transportation, sales, and even use within their jurisdiction. That means that prop 215 is subject to local ordinances with the full support of state legislation. Furthermore AB1300 passed the state legislature with only a single opposition, from someone involved in the medical marijuana industry, and passed the state senate with almost no deliberation, and a unanimous vote.
In Shasta County, the medical marijuana dispensaries tried to fils suit to stop the close down orders. The restraining orders against execution of close down orders. were summarily dismissed by the court system...
The northern part of the state (where the best agg land is located) was all ready very conservative, and those values are gaining strength. Opposition is probably in the 70% range in the far northern part of the state.
To believe that further regulation is not probable may not be sound reasoning

Where else do you work on your guns? I work on my guns at the gym!

Just texted this question to my buddy who is a narc cop.

ME: "Yo, can I buy a gun if I have a card?"
BUDDY: "Sure."
ME: "If I get pulled over with a gun, that I have a permit for, and a bud with a card, will I get arrested?"
BUDDY: "If we're searching your car, you're probably under suspicion for bigger stuff than possession of pot."
ME: "But can I get arrested just for that alone?"
BUDDY: "Not unless you're wanted for something. Why? What have you done?"
ME: "Hahaha. Nothing."
BUDDY: "What kind of gun did you get?"
ME: "No gun yet."
BUDDY: "What are you thinking about buying?"
ME" "Not sure."
BUDDY: "I have a few you could try out. We could go to the PD range. They'll let you in with your PC832."
ME "Cool. Let's do it over break"

So. I'm not sure if that qualifies for empirical evidence or not, but I'd pretty much say that the chances of that are pretty unlikely. It's also possible that my buddy doesn't know about the connection too, but he busts people for drugs everyday, so I'm pretty sure he'd know. He was the one that recommended I get my card.

Is your buddy ATF?

PS, i should go to a range with you and your buddy. :D I haven't been in a while. You can try out Russian guns, they are fun. :D

I am not saying he is going to arrest me on the spot, however, if it gets out that i lied on my application for firearm, i am going to jail. There is a database, that says i have something, i put down on federal form that i do not have it. I lied. They catch me, i am going to jail. If i don't lie i don't get a gun. :)

I am not going to get arrested for having both, i am however going to get arrested for lying on application if i have a card and want to get a gun.

If you like i am going to go play poker with 7 cops tonight, i can ask them too. :D

Please note that i don't have a card, there for not lying on the application.

Ask them. Although I'm not really planning on driving with bud and guns.

I feel better now that Matticus is posting in this thread. He's like Mr. Marijuana Guy. He seems to know a lot, isn't too proud to admit when he doesn't, and is really good about expressing his opinion respectfully.

That's in Montana. You got something for California?

does not matter...that is a federal mandate. That is true no matter what state you are in. The link I posted was simply the first to come up

this is the first that comes up when you specify for CA

Take note...it does say that IF YOU ARE A MEDICAL MARIJUANA USER THE US GOVT HAS REVOKED YOUR RIGHT TO FIREARMS
