Can you believe this???

Hello NV from CA.....

I still don't understand that no one understands that everyone will always have
a different opinion about EVERYTHING.

Nothing matters. YIKES, late night work night nihilism....danger danger

:hmm: Whilst I wouldn't disagree with your statement, it does seriously undermine the value of TB, the Internet and all other forms of human communication :D, don't you think?

;)

In these times, being as hard as they are, people try things that they wouldn't normaly do to get money! Not trying to justify what he did, but, comission sales is a tough row to hoe and some people need to make as much money as they can to survive! In 2001, 2002, I tried to sell new cars at a Ford dealership. Worse job I ever had, but I was not above doing something like that because I have a mortgage and a family!

Since he asked you he must have desperately needed the money. Why are you so coldhearted that you couldn't help him out? He might violate the ethics of GC, but who cares about the store? You wouldn't loose a thing but you could have helped a man out who might have been in need. In my head you're the greedy one.

How can you make a such a bold judemental statement like that? You don't even know this person.

The world isn't black-and-white. Perhaps you're right, but I would rather correct the salesperson's behavior and see if I could work with the guy before I would fire him.

Because in retail, the customer is always right.

It's always easier to b**ch than it is to fix problems, 'cuse if we fixed problems there would be nothing to b**ch about. Where is the fun in that?

That is exactly what the salesperson was doing.

1. Unlike your scenario, the OP did not give the store any business.

GC is GC, regardless which store it is, even if it is a franchise. You would still be a GC employee, and the OP is a bona fide GC customer. A number of TB posters here refer to GC as a single entity, not as individual stores, franchise or not (eg. "I'll never buy from 'GC' again", or "this is typical GC policy").

2. Unlike your scenario, letting the salesperson take the commission would not have cost the customer a dime.

I explained that in my post already.

3. Exactly how is the salesperson ripping off his employer for a sale that the store never had???????

Because GC is GC. He's making GC and/or the store pay for a commission which he didn't honestly earn.

We just disagree. But understand, as long as you are buying from that restaurant, they get business. If you started going into that restaurant, sampling the food and paying for none, but had already ordered accross the street that is closer to where the OP was.

As long as anyone buys from a GC store, the GC brand benefits. The OP was already a customer of GC. He did not go across the street.

Since he asked you he must have desperately needed the money.

The salesperson didn't just 'ask' the OP, he was rude and pushy, desperation doesn't mean you can say and do whatever you want to anyone else. And it doesn't mean he's desperate, it could also mean he's an arrogant prick.

Why are you so coldhearted that you couldn't help him out? He might violate the ethics of GC, but who cares about the store? You wouldn't loose a thing but you could have helped a man out who might have been in need. In my head you're the greedy one.

Where's your backbone if you simply let the rude and pushy salesperson walk all over you for an undeserved commission? The OP might as well just bend over and get it over and done with.

Happens to me all the time at Futureshop. Every time I turn away a salesmen they hand me a card with their name and sales number and tell me to show it to the cashier when I make a purchase.

I don't agree with it and avoid shopping anyplace the employes are on comission since they generally care less about the customer and more about the sales.

Coming from the salesman side I completely agree with you. I've had guys come in wanting to spend a grand and leave with a €500 bass because it was right for them. These guys then become regular customers. The guys on comission don't seem to realise this, they just want a quick buck.

I actually think you are overreacting a bit... and no I don't and never have worked at a Guitar Center. I would have just laughed, said no thanks, left, and promptly forgotten about it. Its not like he slapped your mom or something; guy's just trying to make a buck, which aint easy to do with so many timekillers funking up the inventory with no intention of buying!

+1

Dave Muscato;5723953 By the way said:
thanx, prof econ...zero economic profits, however, is different than zero accounting (or financial) profits.
they ARE making monetary profits.
that's like saying don't start a record label b/c you'll be earning zero economic profits...or any business besides that of a monopoly...but, i guess due to the "fair" rate of return, they make zero economic profits, too...so we should just go to a eutopian society and barter system

davidmpires, i like the way you think...if you ever get a job at a GC, lemme know, i'll drive whereever that may be and we can do business
dave muscato-i have a feeling either you are single (cuz all you do is argue), or you're significant other is totally the dominant person in your relationship, and so you have to get on here to make yourself feel better and voice your opinion :)
