Double Bass Can you identify my EUB

Hello everyone:

I bought this bass from someone's estate after they passed away, and therefore I have no idea the history of it. Some of the strange things are:

~42" string length

It appears to have a full size scroll, neck and fingerboard as a
DB.

The bridge is clear plastic.

There is no built-in pickup - only a Fishman BP-100.

There appears to have been some rough work around where the bridge feet would be.

It has a fitted case which looks commercial, and a fairly well machined endpin peg out of brass.

It is pretty heavy.. maybe even heavier than my DB. Must be solid.

It has some nice flamed wood, and two different kinds of wood (the body is a darker perhaps mahogany and the outer part is maple).

Someone once suggested that this is homemade, but I'm not convinced.

There are no identifying marks anywhere on it.

Any ideas?

It does look like a custom job - and a keeper at that.

It would be interesting with a wooden bridge plus a modern pickup

I must say it is my considered opinion that the builder of the aforementioned electric upright(forgive me, Paul)bass was quite likely under the influence of a near-lethal dose of industrial/weapons-grade mood enhancement.

I forgot to include the pic - but it came with a pretty nice, fitted, padded nylon case with pockets here and there.

If its homemade, I have to wonder - where can one get a plastic bridge, and a case? I don't believe those components are home made at least.

Oddly enough, even with a plastic bridge, this thing sounds like a BP-100.. (ie. with enough pre and eq - not too bad).

I agree a wooden bridge, some tasteful cleanup of the saw marks near the the bridge, and a modern pickup would probably render a fine instrument. I'm just not sure if I want to go that route or sell it to someone who loves EUB's more than I do.

Looks like a neck & Fingerboard from a DB grafted onto a body to me, the saw marks say 'homemade' to me ...sorry !
Its a nice looking instrument though

Definitely. This is the reason for the odd neck joint.
