If you would've asked me this question even 4 months ago, I would've told you hell no, I cannot leave any space on my board. If there space, I filled it with something. No question.
But I recently had an awakening so to speak. And I now believe in what I use live. The rest can wait on the shelf or be sold. I don't fill my board just to fill it anymore. If I don't or wont use it live, I wont keep it on the board. God does it make it easier to use on stage. I got really tired of the tippy toe tap dance. Now I can actually stomp most of the pedals I have onboard. And instead of deciding on a dirt flavor at any given moment, I've made it easier on myself by leaving only 4 dirt pedals onboard. Less is more to me now. It's liberating. It's like @XXL said, breathing room. It's nice to have. It's almost less stressful.
Can YOU tolerate empty space on a pedalboard?
Then why are you trolling the Effects sub-forum?haven't used an effect since approx. 1982
When I had a massive home made board I wasn't interested in filling it completely because it was too heavy for already. Since I started using the pedaltrain mini it stays pretty full all the time.I'm not even a hardcore pedal user and it's hard for me to leave a space...
Lately I've been modularizing my pedals.
One mini-board is a sort of "poor man's Alembic SF-2". I stuck an ACG filter in a box (think tone control/preamp, not envelope trigger) and put it behind an LS-2 so I can mix filtered and unfiltered bass tone. Figured I'd stick a tuner on there too.
It's a cool little, ultraportable, tone machine.
I had cut 2 boards - one for "2 pedals", one for "a bit more". I've got the LS-2, filter, and tuner on the smaller board, but that puts part of the LS2 "off the board".
I could move it to the bigger board, but then there would be some empty space just pleading for a pedal - and I don't really have anything else I want to put on this board.
First world problem, I know...
