Canadians Who have ordered from BSO

Evening all!

I was just looking for some info from others north of the border like me on how your experiences have been with the deliveries from BSO.

Their Rep on this forum speaks for itself. I'm more concerned about our end. Do you get hit hard with brokerage from the fine wallet rapists at UPS or other companies.

For those that live near the border, is it worth it to order it to the border and cross over to bring them in country yourself

For me often its well worth the trip and often the only way to get Gear from the US is to order it and cross over. But I've never bought strings online before. From what I've been reading i may be missing out on something.

Thanks!

When I ordered two sets of DR strings last summer, I ended up saving over 15% off of what I would have paid at my local store, even with the shipping fee and US/Cdn exchange. No duties or any other taxes.

One thing about ordering from Canada, though, is to expect it to take about 10 days via USPS/Canada Post. Also, it's best to order at least 2-3 sets at a time to make it cost-effective due to the flat-rate shipping fee.

Overall a great experience. No reason for shopping anywhere else.

Ditto ... it sucks to drive to the local store and they don't have your brand in stock as well. Add cost savings and no duties and there's really no other logical option for buying strings in my personal opinion!

Just got 3 sets of a LaBella flats and once we adjusted the order due to a stock issue, it was shipped from Cali and received in Toronto in less than a week.

I will IM you with additional details, but highly recommended.

I even contacted the head office for our large national retailer (won't mention any names) here in Canada, complaining about their poor selection of bass strings in regular stock and the fact they didn't stock any of the strings I was interested in. Their simple answer was, "If it's not something we can sell in large quantities, why should we bother?"

Jason, here we come!

I love my L&M Whitby buddies, but I gotta agree with them. If they can't buy a crate of strings and turn them over quick, why bother?

The manager of the Markham store is a great dude (and wicked bassist) and stocks strings from Fodera, Ken Smith and a few other non-mainstream. I bet D'Addario and EB outsell the aforementioned by 100-1.

BSO is a great option and Canada friendly!

I live on a border city (Sault Ste. Marie) and B.S.O. is my preferred source of strings. Heck, local store said they are not able to get my favourite strings which are Elixir coated steels. Considering the discount I get being a T.B. member, I order and drive 10 minutes across the border to pick up. Sweet!…..Hey, there has to be some perks to living way the heck in the boonies of Northern Ontario! :)

Marc

P.S. Most of my gear comes from the states and I have shipped across the border. Sweet deal!

Im in ontario and i find it just easier to pay the $10 shipping charge(no import fees) because in the end its still way cheaper than anything i find locally, especially if ordering multiple sets.
As far as my experience with bsol it has never been anything but top notch.
Jason has gone out of his way a couple times for me and has never failed to help and answer any question i had.

I was going through liking every post then about half-way down decided to quit.... Once I bought from BSO, I never shopped anywhere else. Quick, I get ANY string I want, and wasn't surprised by any additional charges. Plus Jason's a great dude, running a great business, and I'll support that any day of the week.
i have ordered from them and it is very good but-
am I missing something? a lot of the strings I want from them aren't available for shipment from the US to canada
