CANCER UPDATE: Year 3

Livin’ on a slab in Plano, TX
It's been 3 years since my diagnosis: Multiple Myeloma

At first, I was nearly crippled with pain from the lesions that grew on my spine and the vertebrea compression that I suffered as a result.

Since then, I've had chemo for 2 years, corrective surgery, and (mostly) recovery.

There was a period where I could not even sit on the couch & hold a bass on my lap. These days, I am a decent sight reader, much better bassist than I ever was, and am gigging fairly regularly.

These days, I am mostly pain free. The myeloma is a chronic disease that has no known cure, only response from treatment.

I am in that stage of what they call: 'near complete response'.

I am functioning on about 80-85% of my pre-diagnosis physical capability. The rest may simply be age vs. gravity.

You can come back from hell. Believe in the never ending ability to redeem oneself and grow at any age.

Now, if I could only get that drummer to realize this...:hyper:

That's awesome dude. My father to this day still deals with a lot of sequels of cancer and is in pretty rough shape, it's awesome to see people with an attitude like yours and the progress, just wow.

The other 'good' news is that my daily chemo med is being cut in half. My bad 'M' protien number has stayed low & stable for almost a year.

My daily meds wreak havoc on my digestive system and I have to try & temper it with an Immodium type pill.

Just hoping this reduction in dosage will get me a bit closer to normal.

ONE. TOUGH. DECISION: Should I put the DR Low Rider Nickles on my Precision V? Or should I wait until the Stainless Ones are really dead?

I've always liked a bit of 'zing'.

Great news about your recovery!

My grandmother and grandaunt both passed from multiple myeloma, so I have seen what the condition can do to you. It's a nasty thing. It's great you're pretty healthy three years down the track. I hope you continue to do well for a while yet.
