Candy Apple Red Jazz Bass Project

Hello everyone. I am starting up a new jazz bass project, and I have decided to attempt a nitro C.A.R. with matching headstock finish.
I plan on getting my colors from reranch.com. I have done a handful of finishing jobs with their stuff before, but never a C.A.R.
Does anybody know what I should use for the undercoat? (after the primer) Reranch doesn't specify. Should I go with silver or gold? What is more vintage-correct? (early 60s era)
Should I go with Reranch's inca silver, shoreline gold, or (gibson) gold top?
I will start posting pictures as soon as I get some work done!

Fender used a Silver undercoat til 65 and then a Gold coat.

To get the best results - I would try both on scrapwood before....

either silver or gold will work under a candy finish. I am currently doing a Tangerine Candy finish, with a silver basecoat (matching headstock)

something to remember. Depth of finish is in the clearcoat and the buffing, not in the number of coats. This is especially true with candies. More coats just means darker color, not more depth

Thanks for the input guys. I am thinking of going with reranch's "shoreline gold", which is a real light gold color. My prediction is that it will turn out somewhere in between what a gold and silver undercoat would look like. We'll see.

I am a little worried that it will be exceeding difficult to get the candy red part of the finish to look "even" Any suggestions?

I have started the neck (masking and primer) and I will post pics soon!
