Cannot decide on an amp

The redesign is definitely relevant to the question of mid scoop, but my point was more that I find it silly when people schlep a 75 lb. cabinet, and then fret about whether their amp weighs 4 lbs, or 6 lbs...then place that 4-6 lb. amp on top of their speaker cabinet while hanging an 8-9 lb. bass on their shoulder.
Tru dat!

I wonder if maybe using a class D like the Mesa or a Genzler MG800 coupled with a good clean overdrive pedal might get you where you want to be. Try adding a clean OD at the shop like a EHX OD Glove or Bass Soul Food. This may not be what you're looking for but you could find you like it. A lot of class D amps like the Genzler do clean tone really well and are VERY transparent which allows you to flavor your town with effects or the right bass as you see fit.

Thanks for all the replies everyone, I didn't think I'd get so much feedback so soon.
I see most people here are not a fan of ampegs hlf 410 cab lol The main reason I purchased this amp was because it was cheap and I thought it's a decent cab for now. Also not many used options where I live unfortunately. I eventually want to upgrade to something more lightweight and a bit less bulky. But till then I'm stuck with it :p

I think this cab is quite old as it says it's made in the USA and the newer ones are all made in asia if i'm not mistaken.

So far I've ruled out the ampeg pf500. I had a chance to play the gk mb500 a bit more and I'm really enjoying it. sounds very nice and it almost sounded like it had a slight phaser effect to it? I was playing it through a gk cab so it probably wouldn't sound as tight and punchy with my ampeg.

I see some people have recommended the mesa d800+ because it has more high/low settings. I'll definitely have to check it out next time I'm there. Also I have looked into darkglass (costs about 1300 here) but none of the local shops around me carry dark glass unfortunately. And as many good reviews I hear from it, I'd have to try it out before buying it.

I totally looked over the traynor amps.. I'm gonna try out that amp you recomended me next time im at long and mcquade edencab :)

Also just letting you guy's know, I'm fairly new to the whole amp and cab stuff. I've only owned combos so far. So excuse my ignorance on the subject lol

I think it's important that, whichever amp you try, you try it though your cab if possible. If you're on a budget and don't mind a bit of weight, a used GBE750 ying-yangs nicely with that cab. I believe a GK 1001 RB ii would, as well (and it's shallower), but can't say from experience. A number of other heads are worth considering, but that's the general direction I'd lean. If you're able to try one of those (or something similar) against your favorite micro, I'd be interested to know what you think. Sometimes, certain amp/cab pairings surprise you (surprise me, anyway).

Again, good luck.

I agree with MarkA, a Genz Benz GBE750 would probably sound awesome through it if you could find one. I also have noticed that GK amps sound really good through Ampeg cabs. It would be best if you could try out the GK through your cab so that you'll know exactly how it will sound.
