Is the Gripper the love child of the Grabber and the Ripper?

(Unless you don’t like EB-3s, of course).

    Jack Bruce/Andy Fraser fan, EB-3.

If you’re a Gene Simmons fan, Grabber

  11. Grabber. Way more versatile and not total mud. Unless you're after the mud!

  12. Well, an EB-3 played through a modern amp doesn't have to be "total mud". That's why one lowers the volume of the neck pickup to 6-7 and builds their tone from there.

Having said that, these are two very different instruments in just about every aspect imaginable. Not knowing what OP's sonic goals are or what kind of music is to be played on this "new" Gibby, it's hard to make a recommendation one way or another.

Get the EB3! Nice early ones are getting harder and harder to find. The EB3 is capable of so much more than Jack Bruce's muddy tone. Rippers are a decent enough bass, I find them a bit docile sound wise.
    I have owned both 60's and 70's EB3s all are great basses. I currently have a '72 EB3 and a '67 EB0, if I had the chance to buy a 60's EB3 I'd grab it!
Oh a Grabber! Great rock bass loud and nasty, my favorite of the G series. I love mine, gimmicky sliding pickup and all. I still say get the EB3, through a good tube rig they sound massive.

  16. Im a EB-3 fan all the way. Love me some Andy Fraser and Jack Bruce. Never could get into the Grabber. Actually, Grabber sounds kind of Pervey to me......

  17. You're totally right. IMO though, I standby the Grabber being way more versatile.

Even though I love short scale basses I am not a big fan of the EB3 and similar basses, the Grabber on the other hand is a great bass.

I pulled the trigger at G/C and bought the 1969 Gibson EB3 Cherry Electric Bass Guitar at a fair price , NOW I have to figure out how to place it with my other bass's without the wife for buying yet another bass, I keep telling her they are investment toys

  20. Did you ask for more pictures? The listing stated that the bass had a neck reset...
