Cannot Decide - Which Gibson

Where I bought it had 2 EBs, one had a truss rod issue- Passed on that one at any price the other was in Good shape with a few dings and a small chip in the head stock that my bass guy said he can fix up , worse case I can return it to any G/C if I am not happy with it . I will post pics when comes in with my camera

Looking at 2 great Gibson bass's a 1969 Gibson EB3 or a 1974 Gibson Grabber Roth in excellent shape , either one will probably get me stuck sleeping on the couch due to wife say'n NOT ANOTHER BASS?

If that's the wife's attitude buy both and sleep on couch for twice as long. Lol.

Get the EB3! Nice early ones are getting harder and harder to find. The EB3 is capable of so much more than Jack Bruce's muddy tone. Rippers are a decent enough bass, I find them a bit docile sound wise.
I have owned both 60's and 70's EB3s all are great basses. I currently have a '72 EB3 and a '67 EB0, if I had the chance to buy a 60's EB3 I'd grab it!
Oh a Grabber! Great rock bass loud and nasty, my favorite of the G series. I love mine, gimmicky sliding pickup and all. I still say get the EB3, through a good tube rig they sound massive.

I love Jack's tone on this album and his playing (well everything else he did too)

Jack is cool but you can also pull a tone like this from your EB-3 with some rounds, a pick and favor the bridge pickup. Surprisingly, Jack, Bob and Andy from Free all played EB-3s through Marshalls with very distinct tonal differences. Go figure.
