cant believe this happened

hello guys,
for a few months now i have been trying to sell or trade my avatar b410 only because it lacks in the low end department 60hz ouch!! well i was browsing on my local craiglist and i saw some ampeg svt 410 and 610hlf for sell 400-450$(used) instead of buying it outright i decided to ask a few sellers if they would like to trade and i would throw 150$ cash along with the deal.....well one guy said no and the other agreed to the deal the 610hlf for my avatar b410 and 150$ cash. The guy is 51 years old and he dont play as much these days anymore and he needed something lighter (obviously) 65lbs vs 110lbs so he accepted the trade , im going to pick it up in the morning btw its in mint condition..........the only problem is i live on the third floor so uuuuummm yea , do you guys think i got the better deal??View attachment 858323

I don't think you're nuts at all. You have a garage to keep it in, so the stairs aren't an issue. If that situation ever changes, you can always sell the 610 and get something more portable. For now, you've got a great cab and it came at a good price.

As far as it being "just as good" as an 810.... well, that's pretty subjective. I think it sounds pretty similar to the "towel bar" 810. I prefer the sound of the older, flat-back 810 design, but not so much that I'd turn my nose up at the other or a 610. I've used plenty of towel-bar 810s and 610s as part of house backlines over the years and I've never had a complaint. They sound very good.

Stairs and bass cabinets are a slip away from being a combo that screws up your life permanently. I did it for years, and got off scot-free, but don't recommend it. There were any number of incidents that could have left me with a blown-out back or crushed hand, but didn't. And that's just dumb luck at work.

i heard the 610 sounds better than the 810
I'm currently gigging through one of these. I love it. I've also played a bunch of shows through friends 810s. Something about the 610 gives it a tighter lowend to my ears, and it rolls out like a gut punch (in a good way). I dislike playing through 410s, they just don't seem to push enough air, and I can imagine having to replace speakers because of that.

In terms of moving the sucker, well, we've played in a TON of venues that are either upstairs or in the basement. It is definitely a two man lift, and you won't want to be lugging it out for every practice. It's lighter than the old Sunn 8x10 we used to use, but "lighter" is a relative term.
