that's the point: the "real" bass frequencies making the bass sound like a bass are not the ones we usually call (on equalizers) "bass" (I'm sorry for all the repetition), but they are the mid-bass frequencies.

in a mix, when you take away the mid-basses, you lose the weight of the bass.

have you ever heard a "bass driven" track with a sound lacking low-mids?

I can stand round wounds; I prefer tapes or flats, but I can tolerate rounds - IF they give me the precise sound I want from a particular bass. And, sometimes they do. Rickenbacker Light Nickel Rounds give me the brighter, "modern" sound I want from my 4003, for example. I'm dreading the day my last set goes, though; they don't sell them any more... My Kramer "The Duke" is the cat's ass with short scale GHS Boomers, so that's what it will wear forever. And my Gibson T-Bird definitely sounds best with rounds; Boomers again. But the other 16 basses? Flats and tapes, baby, flats and tapes...

Oh well, whatcha gonna do? In all seriousness I do want to give the EB Cobalt Flats a spin. If nothing else they just have me enraptured in curiosity.
