Can't turn off Mesa Prodigy

I just purchased a used Mesa Prodigy. I've only had it for two days now and ran into an issue this morning. I had been playing for about 30 minutes and then went to turn the amp off but the power switch won't flip. It springs back into the On position every time I try to switch it to the off position. This isn't some kind of safety feature, is it? Any ideas on how to fix this?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

It's likely that the switch has failed. Any of our service centers can take care of it, and if it's within 5 years old it will be covered under our old transferable warranty too. Give customer service a call, they will be able to tell you when it was built.

Thanks for the info. Just wanted to check and make sure I wasn't missing something obvious. Unfortunately, I think the warranty just ran out in June. Will find a service center close by to have it serviced at.

Follow up question. Since it's out of warranty is this something by shop would handle or do I have to take it to an authorized dealer?
Do as @agedhorse recommended - call their customer service first. Would be a shame to pay another shop to fix it when it "may" still be under warranty. CS will be able to tell you by the serial number if it's still covered.

Because of the tightness of the packaging, an authorized service center will probably be better equipped to handle this, but any QUALIFIED service tech should be able to do this repair without causing additional damage.

Hi spalka621 :)

turn the amp off

How to turn it off?

No compliments, no flowers!

Don' t cook, don' t shower, don' t shave.

Forget it' s birthday!

Should work! :D

Call Mesa!!! They will help you to get it fixed!

do I have to take it to an authorized dealer?

No! The repair job is not rocket science, but you need someone who knows what he / she does!

You have to make sure to go to someone, that won' t take you as an opportunity to learn

how to repair an amp!

This can cost you a lot of money!

Same thing happened to me with my Mesa titan. What I did was simply flipping the switch on and off very fastly. It suddenly solved the problem and never appeared again.
I'm sure @agedhorse will prevent you from doing so, but it did work in my case ;)

I guess the switch might disengage internally and moving it up and down fastly forces it to "reconnect".

I remember something about a batch of bad switches during the early days of the Prodigy amps. (The same thing happened to one I played at a local store.) I guess the same flaw might apply to the standby switch.

Anyhow, as you now know, they will take care of you.
