Carvin Basses

I found an LB60 Fretless on eBay. Got a nice price on it.
Koa from this period before the government placed a limit on how much koa wood could be harvested.
That bass was singing right out of the case!
So man sounds on it.
And it's still original!
If some big maker would have made it, they would charge way more than what I got it for.
The company sells factory direct, thus the lower price.
Better than the later Fenders. A lot of money gauging on anything pre-70's.
The new Carvin/Kiesels are very well made. Big sound, very easy to play right off the wall. Many were jealous of mine!
Overall, they do hold their value very well. Some people sell them to move them out, while others sell them for more than what they were when they came out.
I'm quoting myself b/c it's funny that I now own 2 Carvins (Icons that were not available when I created my post). Obviously here I am 9 years later and LOVING my Carvins!!!
I've been playing bass for at least 50 years,have played every commecial brand of bass there is,and many,many custom basses. Your question is easy to answer, play some of them and see for yourself if you think they are worth it.
As for me,I love my Carvins. They have ebony fb's and frankly are some of the nicest necks I have ever played. So the way I personally see it, "YOU CAN SPEND A lOT MORE MONEY AND GET A LOT LESS BASS".
What I would look for is a used 85 through 95,neck through,with actives,ebony FB. Anywhere between 300.00 and 800.00 will get you a great instrument. Price subject to condition of course.
Sound wise,there are few basses that I have played through my rig that sound as punchy, clean and sweet as my Carvins! So your rig has to be able to get the sound they are capable of producing.
If you can' get a good sound out of a Carvin bass, it' your rig that's lacking not the bass.
