So... after looking at all the posts for this head, I'm still unsure. Is this a good head? I play mostly Classic Rock, Blues, Country and Worship. I would love to have a nice lightweight amp / 410 set up for small to medium sized venues. I don't play arenas, and if I did... well, this wouldn't be an issue. Is this a good head to base your main rig around?
Personally I think it's perfect...with a caveat: I haven't owned mine for years and years, and long term reliability is yet to be proven. I haven't ditched my ancient Seymour Duncan Bass 400 yet, since it's been a workhorse year in and year out, but on the other hand, it took years for it to establish that reputation with me. I'm sure after using my BX500 for years, I'll trust it in the same way, it just hasn't yet earned that.
In the meantime, I'm not getting any younger, and as house sound systems improve, the need to haul tons of heavy gear is less and less appealing as it becomes less and less necessary.
My personal high point was the SD400 w/ two 810 cabs....sounded great, even onstage outdoors, and looked even better! You can't beat the look of twin stacks on stage. But light weight and modular are my new twin mantras: before long I had traded one of the 810s for a 410 and a 115, stacked formidable, singly adequate for most venues.
Plus I'm more bang for the buck than anything else [over the years my equipment has been the epitome of odd ball/trash] and dollar for dollar, I thought the Carvin beat everyone else out. I'd love to spend hundreds more for slightly smaller and slightly more powerful, but honestly, 6# is light, and 500 watts is realistically plenty of power. As long as it doesn't let me down on stage I'll be as happy as I can be.
... Eh, I guess I'll stop right here.
