I feel for all the players waiting for their heads to ship, The waiting game sucks! I hope you are all satified when they do arrive. I just wanted to know what most BX500 owners are planning to safely transport their heads. Here is my plan. I picked up the rackmount faceplate from Carvin today,and later I'm buying a used SKB shallow 2 space. As far as measurements are concerned it looks like the head will fit just right ,hopefully with enough space for the power and speakers cables. other thoughts or ideas?

Carvin BX500 stand alone or rackmount?

It also fits in a laptop case. I have a nice padded one with lots of compartments. OTOH, a rack case would give the ultimate protection, but add more weight to the amp. What model rack are you guys using?
im using a laptop case...fits almost better than my laptop haha. im not sure if i want to rack it or not yet but for now the LT case is where its at
I set mine on top of another PA amp that's already sitting atop one of the 1X15 speakers. When I'm done I put it into the helmet bag with my cords and stuff.
Add me to the crowd using an old laptop case.
I currently have cords & such in another bag and I put them on top of a cab on a small hand cart. I may see if I can pack everything I need in the laptop case only for rehearsals.

Vinxbass, I bet we're talking about the same case,it's the Shallow SKB XRACK2 it weighs 6 lbs. add about 1 lb. for the rack adapter ,also 5.5 lbs for the BX500 total just under 13 lbs. The SKB completely protects the front and rear controls . I disliked that my old BR615 combo left the front panel knobs exposed,so I redrilled the mounting holes to enable the head to sit further back into the cabinet,but then it was difficult to see my amp settings. I won't have to deal with that problem anymore.I thought about using a laptop bag but found that removing the front and rear panels of the rack opposed to slipping it in and out of a bag seemed safer. The cost difference is huge between the two , laptop cases are dirt cheap.
I'm going stand alone for now. I ordered the briefcase bag from Studio Slips. I really like it.
For the "it must be as light as possible" crowd, including me, I think the major drawback to a bag over a rack is the downtime waiting to play where your amp sitting on top of a speaker is a target for people setting their stuff, even themselves, on top of it.

Vinxbass, I couldn't tell by your photo if you had the shallow case, I haven't picked up my case yet so if you have a chance could you post a picture of the rear with the panel off , I want to see how much space is left with the head mounted.
When you take the front lid off, is the butterfly part still on the main body, or does it come off with the lid? I'm asking because I have my B1500 in a Gator shallow rack, and the butterflies stay on the main body (with the amp). This leads to a lot of rattles unless I put a good amount of padding between the cab and the rack. I've thought about getting a rivet gun and just trying to reverse the latches, but if the SKB cases have it "right" maybe I'll sell the Gator and get an SKB.

I just finished installing my BX500 into a shallow SKB 2 space and as Vinxbass mentioned, it 's a perfect fit, depth between the removable rear panel leaves about 2 inches and there is space on both sides of the head. I don't want to just jam cables into this space because I don't want the head getting scratched.I plan on getting a pouch simular to the kind Shure uses for microphones that will hold my cables allowing them to be carefully placed inside. BTW The SKB has a nice sunken area on top shaped like an X, this will come in handy to hold a drink,tuner,or picks??? (i don't smoke anything) or an ashtray without sliding off due to vibration,check it out,it's there may as well use it.
I'll be done gigging this week, I'll do it for you when I get back. I don't believe the cases is a short case, but there is plenty of room in the back. I know the latch come with the covers, don't remember if the butterflies do.
Vinxbass, I appreciate the favor, but I've already installed my head in the shallow SKB, but a few pictures of the head mounted from different angles may help others here. Liam, just so you know , the butterflies on the SKB stay with the cover,only a small latch on each side of the case remains. Our lead vocalist dropped by this evening so I showed him my rack case, he couldn't beleive there was an amp inside. Needless to say he was impressed when he seen and heard the BX500.
