Carvin's website now has the BX500 amp available and I was just wondering if anyone has played through this yet? It looks like an awesome head. 5.5 lbs, 500w @ 4ohms, and a tube preamp.

I didn't even know Carvin was releasing a head like this.

This amp looks really interesting, I wonder how it is compared to the Hartke LH500

It definitely has more features than the LH500 (the mute switch is a big one for me). The fact that it can go down to a 2ohm load is nice but the specs are pretty vague regarding a 2ohm load. The manual doesn't show up yet on Carvin's website.

I was going to buy a LH500 this week, but this might squash that idea. They are both 500 bucks, the Carvin on paper looks awesome. I wish I could play thru one first. I'm looking for reviews but can't find any yet

I had been wanting to pick up a Carvin head for a while, but wasn't sure about needing the BX1200. I may give this guy a whirl.

    Who goes first?

I was all about the BR600 but went with a Genz Benz NeoPak due to their excellent CS, weight, tube pre, and 2 ohm capability. Had Carvin come out with this a year a go I would have been all over it, i hear the built in compressor on the BR series works well too, this looks just like those heads only lighter with a tube pre. I may have have to try one out to compare to the NeoPak.

Yeh, the spec 'RMS 2 Ohms: limited' isn't saying much. Looks kewl though...

Ok, I went ahead a placed the order for one. Since it's ground shipping it will be a while before I can post a review.

During the checkout they didn't mention anything about this not being available for immediate shipment. Does anyone know if this is shipping or if the orders placed are just preorders?

I've only had my Carvin B1500 for a month, I wish I hadn't have seen this amp :meh: It's exactly everything I've been looking for in an amp so hopefully the tone matches the features.

    blmeier7 -

Any time I have ever ordered anything significant (guitars & amps) from Carvin I always found it best to do it over the phone. Even then, you may get conflicting responses depending on who/how many people you talk to. I'd give them a call and get a status on the whole deal regarding availability & shipment. I think Carvin builds great products but their customer service department can sometimes be lacking.

  17. Cool, I'm going down to the Carvin Sac store tomorrow and giving it a goin over. Carvin's bass amps in the last couple of years have really stepped up in quality and performance.
