Carvin R1000 Problem

I have a Carvin R1000 series I head. It is in the cyclops cabinet. I bought this used a few months ago and it has been playing fine. Lots of power and everything works great. All of a suddon it started sounding very muffled and distorted when I first turn it on, sometimes I have no sound at all. It almost sounds like there is a short in my cable. I do the standard run through and check if the cord is bad, if the battery in my guitar is dead, speakers pugged in, etc. Eventually it comes on and starts acting right. This amp has a tube in it. I'm not familiar with tubes and was wondering if this problem could be related to the tube? I hope someone can help, I'm in a small town and dont have easy access to a repair shop.

Try replacing the tube. It might and might not work. But that's a cheap fix if it works.

I think this head has both solid state and tube stages...where they are controllable with a blend knob. Try turning it all the way to the solid state side and see if you get the same results.

(It has been ~10 years since I owned this head...I am 80% sure it has the blend knob mentioned above.)

i had a very similar problem with the same head. turns out that "ttube emulation technology" just means that they put a tube in it. i replaced the tube ( it cost $19.95 if i remember correctly) and then it worked fine.... untill i blew out the power section a year later
