In my experience, whenever I'd stop by the Carvin store in Santa Ana, the manager there always seemed quite receptive to any comments/feedback that I've ever given on their basses and amps... Now did any of my suggestions actually ever get passed down to Corporate Carvin in San Diego? I have no concrete proof of it. All we can do is try ...

We are about 15 posts from shutting down #4. Pretty good run for a Carvin bolt thread :D

After all my experimentation, I'm down to two keepers. My Trans Pearl Blue fretted SB5000 and my Black on Black fretless SB5000. I do have that other passive SB5000 for sale, but its ultimately going away as I don't need three.

I tried several SB4000s and an SB5001, all great basses, but ultimately that Alder/Maple SB5000 I picked up back at the 2010 Dallas Guitar Show wasn't a fluke. The SB5000s are just bah dass and they are the bass for me. Now that I've been through them all and have the ones I like, I doubt I will be buying any more. Which in turn means I'll likely to be posting less as well, but it was certainly a fun run :)

Really glad you found what worked for you Jarrett. You guys will be seeing less of my smiling face in here as well.

I've decided to send my SB5000 back to Carvin for a refund. I played around with the bass and I believe I actually prefer the 60's pickup spacing rather than the 70s. But what I really decided I didnt care a ton for was the neck. It just wasn't for me. :(

Even though I had some problems with QC Bart was great about handling my concerns and was just awesome to deal with. I recommend both him and Keith.

I'm glad you have found a bass that works for ya'll, the SB5000 sadly isn't going to be it for me.

I guess I'm looking at the first or second week in August for delivery. I'm looking forward to this one!

Sweet Spec's! LOVE it! That's a color combination I would strongly consider as well. But I might opt for a Brian Bromberg/Carvin model when the time comes.

There is so much buzz about these basses and from the clips I've seen/heard they sound incredible. I've spent several times the $$$ on other great basses. So, for $1300 (shipped) I have to give one a try! :hyper:

OK, so it's been 8 months with the SB5000 and I'm still happy. A few quality control issues have surfaced during that time with easy fixes. I had to clean glue from the ebony on the first 3 frets. A solder joint on a volume pot was holding on by a thread. The passive/active/tone pot was loose from the inside. I had to carefully bend the battery contacts so that the active electronics wouldn't be intermittent. Plus, I paid for a lefty neck with reverse Icon headstock and it looks like they gave me a righty neck (the fretboard inlays are backwards). I've had to adjust the truss twice to level; loosened it when it arrived and tightened it recently. MInor issues but worth mentioning.

This bass is amazing and it's hard to play anything else. Pickup response to dynamics is so smooth. The tone controls yield a lot of variety. The low B string is sweet! Coupled with the TC rig (RH450 plus any comination up to three of RS212, 2x RS210, or RS112) I'm still on the honeymoon. Looks like a Christmas order for #2 if I can swing it! Just played a large outdoor festival so I thought I'd share.
