Even without the holes, I just think the control plate looks strange without a guard to "attach to". To go no guard, you'd have to go no control plate, too... IMHO.

I agree, I don't like the floating plate action. I noticed even in that video that was posted recently they shot the camera angle high so you couldn't see the plate down there. Wonder if they could rear route for those?

Thought I'd put out a pre-emptive notice to the SB5000 lovers here...

Oddly... I think I may be deciding to sell off the bass below. I really love the bass's tone and feel, but find I'm always picking up my beat to hell Musicman that's been modded to death before it found it's way to me.
So, I 'think' I may sell this bass and move toward a very nice tonally versatile newer Musicman like a Reflex5. I haven't committed to it yet, but I feel the mental move happening...

No need to clutter the thread over it, but if anyone potentially has interest (I know others wanted the bass when I bought it) I'd rather give SB fans a chance before plopping it up in the Classifieds and someone missing it.

That's sure a pretty one. If it had listed prior to my ordering another one I'd definitely go for it. Very vintage looking!

Is it just me, or are the SB basses the best thing to come along in a LONG time? I've had mine (SB5000) for about two months and it just keeps getting better every time I play it. The quality and fit/finish at this price point amazes me, and I'm a stickler for that kind of $#it. My other basses are Lulls and Elricks, and the SB holds its own against them on every level. Thanks for letting me "vent".

My third SB Bass will be here in a couple weeks.

The only way you beat the value of a Carvin SB bass is to buy a used one!

I've played exclusively Roscoe's (with a Smith, Fbass and MTD mixed in) over the last 15 years and now it's down to my Roscoe 6 and the SB 5001.
And trust me, as good as this Carvin plays and sounds, it will get lots of playing time!

I think so too. I'm 10 months into owning mine and still digging it as much each day. I picked up some Sadowskys and Mike Lull basses over the weekend and thought, "if they were the same price as the Carvin I might buy one" but I suspect they are a little higher priced :D
