Carvin SB5000 / SB4000 Roll Call...Part 8!

I was somewhat surprised when Carvin introduced the SB4000. Seemed like a huge departure from what they'd been doing for the last couple of decades.

That was the idea. This is a collaboration between them and Sekou. He drove the design, and they both (Sekou and Carvin) wanted something new and different.

To me, the bass would look that much more "authentically vintage" if it sported clover leaf style tuning machines.

But... (again, per above) "authentically vintage" was never what this bass was intended to be. Sekou wanted the sound to be very much like a 70's J, but he (and Carvin) wanted the looks to be unique.

Traditional gig bags, yes. The teardrop "rigid" bags, pretty much. Any case that's got a generalized Fenderish fitted area inside, no. Any hard/rigid case that's got a large rectangle body area... maybe.

FWIW, I am in San Diego to visit family,and make the pilgrimage to the factory to check on my new LB75, and I stoppped into the San Marcos GC to kill some time and there is a BEEEutiful SB5001,Looks brand new, plain gloss one peice ash body, pearl pickguard, matching knobs ETC. for the price of $699 w case. The only problem is that it must weigh 11+ pounds, almost felt like my warwick corvette. The manager said the guy who owned it traded it in on a P5 because he could'nt take the weight. Almost took it with me . Can't gig it though my back would not like it.

i can check a mono tonight, and if it fits, i'd think the UC would too. My guess is, it'll be ok, tho a bit snug on that top horn.

Vic, I've got a question for you: I remember your beautiful bass and there was 2 pictures you posted of it: One with a white pickguard and one with black. Which got the long-term nod?

Thanks! I stuck with the original plan, and put the black one on there. I will admit the white looked much better than I thought it would, but I still liked the black a lot better.

The most interesting thing was taking the white guard off and for the first time, considering having it with no guard. Again, surprised at how much I liked it, even with the "orphaned" control plate and screw holes, but in the end I still liked the black guard best.

Turns out Carvin made all the right choices in aesthetics when they did the NAMM bass I basically duplicated.

Same here. There are a couple of VYM on the in stock page and the photos almost appear to be different colors between the two instruments.

Closer to gold or a brighter yellow?
