Carvin SB5000 / SB4000 Roll Call...Part 8!

Carvin will build you a neck anyway you want it!That thing's a beauty. If you throw in some frets I'll be all over it.
Quick question: how do the SB's balance on a strap? Any neck dive, do they hang level with the floor or will the headstock stay angled up without lifting it? Does a chambered body make a difference to balance? I should finally be getting the money to order one in a few weeks and want to be sure I'll like it...
I have an Ash SB4000 (not chambered) and it sits great on the strap. No neck dive. In fact, b/c of that upper horn, I find that it's probably more comfortable than my other basses.
Mine is pretty well-balanced too. I think I would still get a chambered version if I were to do it today. I bought mine before the chambered versions came out. I have a hard time believing it would affect the tone, so I would t definitely do it.

I also recommend the master volume and pickup blend instead of VVT, but that's not relevant to your balance question.

I agree, my SB5k is quite comfortable on a strap and it weighs in at an even 10.0lbs. Balances nicely and the neck stays where I put it.
Interesting that you mention that, because i was just thinking this last night... I went with the stock controls on mine. I like having the Vol/Vol setup but it does throw me off a bit, because it's my only bass with that setup. I'll turn off the front pickup thinking it's the master, and forget about the back pickup. That's an issue in my head though, not with the bass. The Vol/Vol setup on my Carvin is actually quite a nice change.

Thanks guys. Anytime I look up a review the guy is always seated with no strap, and neck dive is one of those things that makes a bass fun to play or a PITA.

I went all out.
Bookmatched Figured Claro Walnut top.
5-piece maple neck.
Headstock to match body
Rosewood fingerboard.
Abalone Dot inlays
SS Med-jumbo frets.
J99A Pickups. Master Vol, Blend,
Gold Hardware- Gold logo.
No pickguard-Ivory Tusq Nut.
First thoughts, this is a well made bass.
Bass was setup fine right out of the box.
Nice fret-job, fast neck, no neck dive. balances great.
Bass weights in at 9 pounds.
Bass sound very organic, old school vibe. Due to wood combo.
The rosewood fingerboard tames the slight sizzle of the pre-amp. This is a big sounding bass. New strings will help dial in tone I'm after.
I highly recommend the 5-piece neck. It make a big difference for the extra $90.00.
Nothing negative to report.
All in all, Carvin got a winner here.
This plays and sound like a $2500.00 bass with a $1500.00 price tag.
Awesome - can't wait to see pics! I went with the 5pc all-maple neck too and rosewood board, but with plain alder body and the HB pickups/all-active.
Of course I got "the card" in the mail and I'm not due until...early November.

It's not humor. It's a legitimate TB rule. The bass does NOT exist unless there are photos.

Mine balances extremely well, and it's chambered (though not super light for a chambered bass). The bridge they use is MASSIVE, so that weights my bass toward the body end.
