I think that the headstock mismatch thing is because the headstock is finished in gloss and the neck/board is tung oiled?

Just a guess.
I guess so. I specifically contacted the salesperson to let him know I wanted the headstock to match the fretboard and this is what I got. I looked around at some other SBs and I've seen a few the same way.

I would assume (but that's why assume starts with an 'ass') that the match is just referring to the wood. Can't you check to see what you ordered? (finish on the headstock vs. finish on the fretboard)

just got it home. it was delivered to work. This bass is unbelievable. I was considering buying a 2nd willis bass and having it fretted I love this thing. It'd be an amazing instrument at 2x the price.

Jack, I think that Joe (Narud) had mentioned earlier in the thread about making these more playable for folks like us that like a narrower spacing. I don't think that bridge is adjustable, but if you put one on that is and set the strings to be 16mm between each string, instead of from center to center, than you'll make the strings closer together without having much space left on either side of the neck. Joe, please correct me if I'm wrong. Worth a shot if you end up really digging the bass.

Wow, what a quick change of heart. You posted a couple days ago that you really liked sadowsky basses- how do you feel the SB compares?

Very favorably. I was going to jump all over anyone who would even mention them in the same breath but I really like this bass. I wouldn't go so far as to say it sounds better or anything but it's a fantastic bass and I love the neck feel. It's smaller and fits my hand better than the sadowsky.

I think the sadowsky is probably the next league up from the carvin but like most things, the difference is a very personal one.
