No, I don't think so. The paperwork said a couple of days. I just waited a little longer. I think the whole bass sort of settled in a bit. Felt sort of akin to a speaker breaking in, got better sounding after a bit.

I tried to take a couple of pics of my neck to give you an idea of where my action is set:

I've got a postcard in the strings for reference. The action is low enough that it holds the postcard there on its own and low enough for me. I could still drop my bridge pieces quite a bit, but it would just lay the strings on the neck for the most part. Hope that helps.

Mine looks to be just a tad lower than yours by maybe 1/64 or so but as I mentioned, the bridge is bottomed out. How close is your bridge from being bottomed out?

I could probably slip 3 pennies under the bridge pieces. Not sure what that equates to.

I can't imagine playing a bass with action lower than that needed to hold a postcard in place. No room for string movement at all. But to each his own, I have aggressive right hand technique as well.

You might want to call them back. If there's one thing I've learned about calling service reps is that every one responds differently to every question. You might get a guy that'll actually tell you what they do and save you the shipping charge. Push come to shove it might just be worth it to shim it so you don't have to 1) pay money 2) wait for your bass.

Thanks for the info. They must have cut the neck pocket too deep on mine. I could not have fit a postcard under my bridge pieces.

I actually did call them back. I can shim it myself for a quick fix but the best way to fix something like this is to build up the neck pocket with wood and shave it down to match the contour of the neck. I've had to do that on old fenders before but it shouldn't be needed on a new bass. I guess the other option would be to ask them to send me another one.

I'm impatient so I'd try and fix it myself but they might be able to do a better job :). Either way hope your bass gets fixed soon. Can't wait to order mine.

can you hear a difference in shimming like that vs a business card?

There's plenty of room for string movement. Not sure what you're talking about.
