Casters ?? Yeah or Na ???

I am considering buying a combo bass amp, single 15 plus horn. Epifani UL115. Will casters greatly affect the sound, or should it be sitting directly on the floor ? I play a baby bass, so, lots of sub sonics are invovlved .

They won't effect the sound much at all. Nothing noticible imo. But if your really worried just get a portable dolly/hand truck that will fold up. That way you can roll the cab around and set it on the floor for playing.
 
I use a Rock & Roller multi cart for going long distances[hotel bowels;) etc], but for short trip from the car on a easy load in, casters make my day.
 
I don't understand how casters would affect mechanical coupling.
Wouldn't you still have the same vibrating mass making contact with the floor at the same number of points?

It depends on if you're talking about having 4 casters or just 2 on the back that you can use to tilt the cab back and roll (like the difference between an Ampeg 410HE or an Ampeg 410HLF).

With 4 casters, the bottom of your cab is like 3 or 4 inches off the ground and all the vibration has to try to travel through the wheels, which doesn't work out so well.

With 2 casters, the bottom of your cab is either in full contact with the ground or it's like 1/2 inch off the ground if your cab has little feet (most do). The closer that cab is to the floor, the more it's gonna vibrate the floor, plain and simple.

If you want it to vibrate the floor, put it on the floor. If you don't, then don't. I pretty much always do, but that's just my own taste preference.

Castor is really six stars in one. Even a fairly small telescope shows that Castor appears double, and in fact an even fainter star nearby also is part of the same system.

Each of these three stars (Castor A, B and C) is also double. This is not directly visible in telescopes but obvious through the use of a spectroscope, which is a device for splitting starlight into its component colors. The two larger and visible components in the Castor system – showing in the drawing on this page – are hot A-type stars, whereas the smaller ones are cool, M-type red dwarf stars.

The mass of all six stars together is, very roughly, about six times that of the sun. So, like our sun, they’re a bit on the puny side, as stars go.

I recently bought a used 2x12 cab that the prior owner put 4 swivel casters on. As the cab only weighs ~35lbs to begin with, I took them off and put feet on them again as I didn't like how easily it rolled around. I didn't want to try it out and have it roll away on me.
 
Okay so maybe it is just me but every cab I've owned with casters came with them from a previous owner and there were the type that you could remove without any tools. Just the short steel rod on each one that inserts into the receiver screwed to the bottom of the cabinet.

On an uneven stage or something I would simply remove them.
 
I plan to have removable casters on both of my 115" cabinets. They're about 55lbs each and for long distance it is much easier to roll than lift. When there is a carpet or door frame lip it only takes a quick tug on the handle to get it up and over.

How is it any more difficult for the vibrations to travel through wheels than through rubber or metal feet?

Theoretically the surface contact between the caster wheel and the floor is an infinitesimal line :wacky:

In all seriousness it is completely arguable that there are certainly more losses in a caster than there are in a 1 inch diameter rubber foot common on bass cabinets. The caster has bearings, rings and several floating parts. The vibrations need to physically transmit between several extra "interfaces" than is necessary when you're just talking about feet. whether or not these losses account for any noticeable decrease in the low frequency response of the damn floor!? who knows. :wacky:

Bzzzz wrong. The cab moves air by the speaker. The box just sits there providing a backstop and tuning vessel for the speaker.
