caught a lizard with my bass!

the screen porch door is open today and i guess a lizard snuck in. the cat and 1 of my dogs was trying to catch it. it ran into the bottom port of my 115. i hooked everything up and played about 15 minutes of obnoxious LOUD WANKING(!). no sign of the lizard. i started playing the low b real softly... amps still cranked, but soft still... 15-20 seconds, here's the head, here's the body, he's climbing up the grill. in rushes the cat and knocks him on the floor, i scoop it up and take it outside. it looked kinda traumatized but i think that was from being deprived of the delicious bassiness...:bassist:

when i saw it was responding to that quiet low b, it occurred to me that if it was a movie that would be a perfect soundtrack for the scene. i don't know if i saved it's life or not. the cat smacked it pretty hard and it had to listen to that god-awful wanking that could kill anything!:D it was moving when i put it in the yard though.

Reptiles love low frequencies for some reason... Maybe we have a lot more in common with them than we think?

I used to have a South Indonesian Spitting Cobra, who would sometimes outsmart the locks on his cage and roam around the house at night. Pumping the low end for a few minutes would always bring him out in the open. :)

Haha. No, not a joke. I used to be quite the reptile enthusiast, actually. At one time, my collection consisted of the following (venomous) snakes:

South Indonesian Spitting Cobra
West African Gaboon Viper
Broadband Copperheads
Southern/Trans Pecos hybrid Copperheads
Dusky Pygmy Rattlesnake
Western Diamondback Rattlesnake
Sulawesi Phase Temple Viper (Otherwise known as the Wagler's Pit Viper)

The Cobra was raised by me from the time he was 2 or 3 weeks old, so he was very tame. For the most part, snakes aren't usually considered very smart, but that Cobra had my daily routine down in a matter of a few weeks. He could escape from anything shy of a cinderblock on the lid of his cage.

Anyway.. Haha. Enough of the hijackings.. :ninja:

i thought it was pretty on topic. so reptiles like low frequencies? but he was wincing in pain over my wankfest? i feel like ed mcmann: "i did not know that". is that the same principal in snake charming? anybody ever done that (snake charming) with a bass that you know of?

The volume level of the "wankfest" may have bothered the lizard, but reptiles in general tend to be attracted to low frequencies, or at least are curious enough to be drawn to them.

As far as the snake charming with a bass thing, it's not likely.. I say this because while lizards can hear, snakes cannot (they don't have eardrums). The whole snake charming thing is based entirely on movement - the snake is in a defensive pose and is following what appears to be a perceived threat.

I suppose you could charm a snake with the headstock of a bass though ;)

Ya reptiles like low frequencies! They don't have ears, so they hear with vibration. There was a Simpsons Episode about it. (Simpson freak) Townspeople were attacking the snakes, so to save them, Lisa grabbed a pink 51' Precision and had Bart put the amp on the ground...while Barry White is singing.

I hate to be an a$$, but I'm glad you "used to have" those hots. If you can't keep 'em in a cage, you shouldn't have them in first place. It ain't cool to have stuff that can hurt people getting loose. Not fair to the animal, not fair to the people in harms way, not fair to the rest of us that keep stuff without being irresponsible.

Okay, maybe I don't hate to be an a$$...
