Thanks so much for coming to the show, guys, and for all your very kind comments. Sorry the sound wasn't the best. It did seem a little loud and muddy to me, but the soundman there is among the best in the Bay Area and I've done shows with him for over 20 years now (yikes!), so I'm always inclined to defer to his judgment. I guess he just had a bad night.
Widener, the percussive technique I use on the Hyperbass is part of an approach I've been working on for many years. It originally came about from a desire to see if I could expand a bit on the ways the bass is played rhythmically (such as slap), but once I got into it I kept discovering more and more possibilities, so at this point it's become sort of a huge monster of a concept. I tried to avoid giving it a fancy name as I've always just thought of it as playing the bass rhythmically, but so many people have been asking about it that I've felt the need to codify my ideas a bit more and have started referring to it as Integrated Percussive Concept. Sorry for the hyperbole, but clarifying it does seem to help me get a better handle on the concept.
And by the way, I'd love to have a look at your Hyperbass! I hope you'll bring it around sometime.

Michael - and Steve for that - I have to thank for for continually challenging my musical boundaries. I received your latest album Michael yesterday. It popped through the door just before I was set to drive 3.5 hours and what a friend I had on my trip! I knocked my mobile phone off and just listened and listened and listened - fantastic.
On the bass front I have to admit that I fall asleep if I listen to VW for any time, you see I need something to really make me sit up and listen - Billy Sheehan interestingly does this on his latest - tack 12 especially.
Michael's new CD is the greatest instrumental album that I have ever heard (and I'm in my 40s!) - it is totally awesome. Thank for for creating such a masterpiece and I reckon any film producer out there needing a perfect fit for a film will find this sublime creation just the ticket.
