Celestion speaker specs

Well. 'drdecibel' sent me a pdy with mechanical and electroacoustic specs for (among twenty others) the K15T-100, which he says is the K15-100 renamed. Frequency response 35 - 4K Hz, resonant peak at 35 Hz.

Mine was originally purchased from "Black market Music" in or around San Francisco, and recently sold to me (cheap) by my bass teacher here in A2. The original cabinet is made from the nastiest, knottiest, voidiest half-inch construction-grade plywood that I've ever seen used for anything other than concrete forms.

My challenge is to build a new cab with quality materials without making the thing significantly heavier than it is now (it's pretty light for a 1x15)

Insufficient data. At the very least you need Fs, Vas and Qts, along with xmax to determine whether it has adequate displacement to be worthwhile using.
 
Vas = 12.87 cubic feet
Fs = 35 Hz
Qts = 0.616
Xmax = 0.059 inches

Anything else, Bill? I have 29 electroacoustic and 11 mechanical specs for 20 different Celestion speakers.

Oh - and I asked if the specs I was given apply to my older speaker. Yes they do.

Interesting problem now. Somebody at Celestion rated it at 100 watts.
The cab it was sold in is 14x16x20 (inside), or about 2.6 cubic feet.
I've been using it (rehearsal & practice) with a LMII/250 (master @ noon); no damage yet, although it does sound weak in the mids (EQ set flat).

The whole point was to have a (cheap) light cab that I could carry up and down basement stairs without the young'uns constantly offering help with that worried expression on their faces.

Apparently my choices are to set it out by the road and consider the $50 an educational expense, or put it under my Valve Jr head in the woodshed.

That's the thermal rating of the voice coil, which says nothing about what really counts, which is the displacement limited power.

For practice it might be OK, I wouldn't use it on gigs myself, not when it can be seriously outclassed by a decent ten.
 
Right, practice-only was the idea. I have some SWR WorkingPro cabs for gigs.

Perhaps I'll mod my Peavey MicroBass 1x8 to take an ext cab and use the Celestion for that. (Can't turn the Peavey up past 3 as it is.) Or homebuild an 18 watt tube bass amp. Something like that.
