Celinder Basses?

I don't understand why you say you have given up.

I've always made it my policy to buy off the shelf, so to speak or buy used.

Hi Jerry...it was through them directly...
I've ordered/dealt with other manufacturers directly and had no problems like this ..or really problems at all. I still believe most companies are ..honest..and you can basically trust what they are telling you throughout the process and what they are committing to at the outset. I agree with you about how to buy -but only for this co...I had a chance to buy one already there but wanted to have few small changes- so I ordered it. On this side now..I wish I did buy off the shelf or used.

1) Celinder makes an outstanding bass guitar,
a hand-crafted J-Bass with great woods, fit, finish, electronics, and feel, and are crafted with outstanding Danish quality. (Beautiful
country btw, and they LOVE & respect jazz musicians there!) Celinders rate up there alongside high-end "Fender" clones such as Sadowsky, Lull, Elrick, and (USA) Lakland.
You would not regret owning/playing one of these outstanding basses.

2) Having said that,Basses55 is to be highly commended for posting his unfortunate experience.
Even if it were not the norm, for some reason it happened to him, and if nothing else it might serve as a caution so that if/when one wanted to order a Celinder from the factory, he or she could be forewarned & be prepared to take steps to insure that they get their bass in a timely manner. So good job w/ the heads-up.

The late great LABX "loaned" me an awesome Sunburst Celinder J-Bass for a couple sessions and it played & sounded better than any of the
high-end J-styles I've used. It was a keeper...(Shoulda bought it....)

Hi Steven....both ..and many times...for a long while now...no results, lots of run around and out and out bullsht. No bass made and no money back after numerous requests. To add to the injury I spent alot of my own money in long distance calls to Denmark...would "nightmare" be the right expression?

Cant account for the inconsistantcy between customers....congrats on getting your basses though!

Hi:
I currently own a Vintage 5 and it is really well made instrument that is super solid and beautifully crafted. It doesn't sound or feel quite as good as my Sadowsky so it only gets used when a 5 is definitely needed. The built in pre is kind of midrangy and not as organic sounding to me as the Sadowsky. It's a 35 scale and all the notes sound really good and even and taut and I'm sure there are many players who would be really happy with it. I'm just hooked on the Sad.

What kind of payment did you make to them, a check, a credit card or what?

Sorry to hear of your problems and yes I went through some of the same too beleive me... I do not take it well when somebody has my money and I don't receive things on time or within reason..
Generally payments are made through wire transfers which are hard to get back if your dealing directly with them... It may be safer to go through a dealer and put a down payment with a credit card with the agreement that if you don't receive it in a certain amout of time you can get your money back, but good luck with finding somebody who will agree to that.. I've tried it both ways and didn't find too much of a difference..
Hey Abaguer, thats interesting that you found it to be too mid-rangy, because there are no mids control on it... I found my Sadowskys had more of there own sound which was fantastic and my Celinders to be more organic.. I've even thought of trying a Sadowsky pre-amp in one of these... In my previous Celinder, the one for sale at BunnyBass, I put in a Lakland/Bartolini preamp and it sounded great...

The Celinder controls do take some getting use to, but love the way it sounds and plays...
If anybodys interested, I know of a few dealers waiting for some Celinders to come in.. I don't know if they received them yet, but I may check later today.. I still may be putting up my Burgundy Mist one for sale.. As always, Best of Luck... Steve..

....it was a check....and nothing I can do. They were very timely in going to CASH that check from me- they seem to be right up on top of that one!..funny. If I listed some of the details they would be entertaining - the excuses became more bizzare and comical as time wore on..precisely because the legitimate ones were running out of steam. I dont feel comfortable at this point to go through the details though..I just wanted to tell fellow bassists of one guy's nightmare at the hands of Celinder so you may be careful and not go through it too.

Steven,
I dont take it well either when I'm knowingly being lied to and they have my money to boot. If you , at the time of ordering, have a time frame agreed to within reason..and this from the guy who builds it- not a 3rd party dealer- it should either be adheared to or honestly amended with the option of getting your money back. "If" it takes 3-4 years to get a Celinder...they should be honest up front...but you have to ask..why arent they honest about it up front? Maby(ha) I'll someday get a Celinder in the mail..in what.. .yet another year? I dont think I'll ever get a bass or money back. When does one consider it a lost cause? When you catch them in lies within the fabricated excuses over a long period of time ..details that which cant fit together anymore because its just really not possible..the trust and credibility in anything that is said falls away. Good signal you are being had...when people are going out of their way to HIDE what really is happening ..and they tend to dissapear and put you off at the same time. Also- and this is very important..when you demand your money back from any company after much more than a reasonable amount of time after what was understood at the time of the deal...and in my case, they do not honor it AND dont make a bass..thats theft in every sense in my book.

I agree that going through a dealer MAY be better ..but I dont know.
Remember too...there's more than one person pointing to the smoke around that company...even the people posting here who's orders have been filled seem to have had at least some difficulties in ordering ..how many other people like me are out there with NO bass AND NO money? Makes me wonder.
What if you need warranty work done? Cant imagine sending a bass back to Denmark AND dealing with a repair after all this....a bass at this price point for me gets worked on by the luthier- as I have had done with a few without hassle. Again..maby others have had a different road with theirs and I say..I really am glad you have had a proper deal..and feel good that your monies and energies and time have not been thrown away.

The only thing I've purchased, bought and paid for, with my $1000US is the right to honestly give the account of what has happened to me so that other bass players looking around do not HAVE TO potentially go through the same thing.

Most people sound/seem nice on the forum..and they are fellow bassists..again...beware! Be Careful! Dont make the same mistake as I did!

Good luck Treena and hope you get what you really want- enjoy..I know how exciting it is to be looking and dreaming of a new bass:)

Your experience & this thread are similar to one posted re: Aguilar in that both high-end mfrs.
gave less than satisfaction to some users-
Your case sounds like a real rip-off & I would contact Danish authorites as drastic (& ineffectual) as that may seem.
I don't doubt at all your experience; it seems odd that such a well-presented company with a hand-built instrument no less would screw around like that.Their bad.
Twice, I had problems with US mfrs.: a speaker cab & effects pedal, both custom-built to order.I ultimately received both but LOOOONG after promised, and their non-communications in the interim were a big part of the problem....If only they had let me know of the delays...
In one instance I did contact City authorities over 2000 miles from me, and they did follow-up
& bug the builder, who then completed the job-
(AS IF I cared that he was "annoyed"- I wanted my stuff that I had paid for!)
If you're out a thou, I dunno-
I've been to Denmark. It's one of the most progressive countries in Europe and they MIGHT have resources you could contact by E-mail etc. that could act on your behalf. Start with their closest Consulate to you here in the States.
Hey, I would- I know personally I would want my money or I'd want to pay the balance & get my bass & play it!
Good luck, and good job for the alert.

!! Exactly...and I have put some thought into that one..believe me..but...you cant take an instrument out of the hall without proper documentation....anyone know any of the loaders/fork lift operators at NAMM?
Kiddin!

I appreciate the thoughts Larry- thx.
I have talked to my lawyer....no easy/good recourse..but maby there is some kind of consumer protection organization..good thought. I'll check into that.
Sorry to hear of your hassles with your custom products....
It was surprising to me too....but you never know for sure with anyone what the "game" is until your playing it ...they obviously make bass guitars..for some people....and trade shows.

Well, I ultimately did get my stuff, but I had to
rattle some cages, that's the premise...It was a hassle for sure.
A lawsuit or small claims options probably are not viable of course, but I think a well-placed & documented E-mail, call, or letter to the Consulate may do...something. There are Trade Councils, etc, and Celinder IS shipping product to dealers & shows over here, so maybe if the Minister- of - Something or some such Danish Dept.
even went so far as to write Celinder's business and inquire, who knows??? I meant it when I said the Danes are a very progressive society, its an amazing cultured Country. I have to believe that they would not want to be represented as allowing business to be done like that with no recourse.

I hope you get either your Celinder, or the $$ to get another equally fine bass without the hassles.

..Larry you bring up some good last option suggestions for some kind of recourse..I will inquire take your advice..and yes I've been to Copenhagen..I really liked it. This whole thing is NO REFLECTION ON THE DANES! GO THERE! ..It's really cool:)

Yeah there's no mid controls but the pu/preamp seems to be voiced with more midrange on mine. I've thought about having the preamp/pickups changed because the instrument itself is really, really well made.

I'm sorry to hear about the problems with Celinder. When I got the bass I needed to contact Christian about getting a truss rod for it; I e-mailed him and it took him quite a while to get back to me about it. But he did get back to me and shipped me a truss rod so in my experience he does take care of things it just takes a while. That said, my problem was a truss rod that cost six bucks and I would certainly be upset if it was the price of an instrument we were talking about.

WOW, man...... this sounds like a complete disaster. I'm sorry for even asking you to relive the moment!
