Celinder Update 5

I may be mistaken but I think there was a price increase in the last year or so...approx..which may account for the difference in price between the the 2 of yours KJung. Certainly not to rule out future price increases either.
I talked to Glenn too and thats right..it will sell for $3900 or about..it actually lists for well over $4000.

KJung thanks for the info on the pre..interesting to check it out if it ever comes with the bass. If he settles on on a version..would you swap in the new one to compare?

I'm an 'active' guy through and through, so short of having a 'failsafe' model in case the battery fails (which has never happened to me in many years), I don't really have much interest in the passive option... especially on the Update model, which is meant to emulate a 'tricked out' late 70's J Bass anyway.

And.... I'm a big fan of supply and demand setting the pricing of an instrument... so no problem with Chris kicking up the price if he can get it.

I strongly recommend Atelier Z basses to anyone who wants an aggressive, 70's jazz bass that thinks that Celinder is a bit steep in price. They have outstanding build quality and they really nail the sound of a heavy ash 70's jazz with that classic Marcus tone.

Nothing wrong with Glenn raising his prices, others have raised their's 15 - 20%.:crying:

I'm guessing its not Glenn but Celinder and his currency situation mostly- but just a guess. I know up here George Furlanetto is going through the same thing on the exchange.

Interesting to see if this currency/price increase (and then a further increase if it happens) situation will affect the sales ....if , like Fodera, enough people will pay just about whatever thay have to have one even with the wait periods ...I'm thinking with the low supply...probebly.

Yeah, good for him if he gets that kinda bread.. he just lost me, though.. entirely too much $ for a bass for me, anyway.
I have a Fender Am Dlx Jazz 5 that sounds killer.. i paid $800 used. I just can't imagine there's $3100 difference.. that's just me.. I'm a cheapskate! :hiding:

Well..... I'm a little confused by people thinking the price of these is expensive. I GREATLY prefer this bass to FBass, Fodera, MTD, etc.... and they are priced the same or more.

Do not let the similarity in look to a Jazz Bass cloud the issue. The electronics, woodworking, fit and finish, etc. is every bit Fodera, MTD, etc. quality.

I totally understand about not wanting to pay this much for any bass (if I wasn't lucky enough to have my own non-music related company and also still be playing at a professional level, I wouldn't be buying all this gear either!), but after owning Fodera, FBass, MTD, etc., etc., these are, by far, the finest instruments I've ever owned in every way, of course, IMO.

Again, all personal taste. I wouldn't even think of paying $6,000 for a Fodera, but many people do. There's all the obnoxous 'why would anyone pay this for a Sadowsky' threads also. All that talk doesn't make sense to me.

No big deal, but I've owned just about everything, and these things are the mega-bomb:)

I'm becoming painfully aware that I will probably eventually own one of these also. I have yet to hear another bass that approach's the specific 70's type of tone the Celinder delivers, but everyone who has tried one of these raves about it similarly to my feeling about the Celinder. They seem like a very good option to me for quite a bit less money.

PS. I hope, from my way too many posts on this site, readers of this thread appreciate the fact that I try to see the positives and negatives of gear that I own, or gear that I have owned. I try not to gush about everything that I own, and realize there are positives and negatives to every piece of gear. However, except for Chris's questionable customer service, there are very few downsides to these instruments if they represent the sound you are trying to achieve.
don't get me wrong, i can't afford to pay that much for ANY of the brands mentioned, either!

I'm just noodlin' and passin' time posting tonight! I know what you mean. Total luxury. Whenever I play somebody's Music Man 5 or a Lakland Daryl Jones, I wonder what the heck I'm thinking buying all this other fancy stuff  .

I feel very lucky and am appreciative of my current situation (although I have worked very hard to get here through the years). However, I realize through your situation (which sounds like it's going very well... thank goodness), that all of this is very unimportant and trivial, and also that if you can really play, it becomes even less important:)

Sure is fun though:D

Hallelujah! ) but another awakening.. i just plugged in my Fender and it smoked me again! i will put it up against any of these other basses and it will not only keep up, but possibly outfunk it- i have been messing with the Sad Tokyo a lot lately, and it is awesome.. but i plugged in my little Fender and it was like .... whoah!!!! this thing is the real deal, which is great, dont have to look much further at all..
Fender.. go figure.

From what I understand, those Fender's have been played on a few records and by some half-way decent players. Maybe they will catch on:D

K...I had an Update for a short time....to me..the feel and tone were unlike my Fbass and Fodera..and also somewhat different than the Lulls and Laklands and Sadowkys I've tried also. If it hits you hard...I can see why the Celinder may not be replaced for what it is IMO.
I also agree with you that the "overpriced" threads and posts are really moot if the bass makes YOU feel like the best you can be or sound.....I have some high end basses that let me feel that way ..and ....its just a personal thing....like if a Fender does that for someone just as well ( I like Fenders too).
Anyways, in the end to me the "funk" is mostly in the heart and fingers separate from the "what bass is better or just as good" shootouts.

Is your Update the one from ABT site? Nice one!
