Cellphone Help Needed..

I know next to nothing about cellphones.
The only one I've ever owned is a 7-11 Speakout Nokia probably made around 1491.

It will text but abysmally.. doesn't do Bluetooth or Internet.
I only bought it for emergencies. The plan is extremely low cost. Buy phone once. Buy minutes as needed.

But now it's time to update.

I have other Telus options. My wife wants one now but not a 7-11.
But myself I may stick with 7-11 plan.

7-11 can use other phones besides theirs. Theirs right now are mostly cheap crap.

They have some requirements though:-

Needs to be "unlocked"

Must have 850 to 1900mhz capability (????) GMS (???)

Must be UMTS/HSPA compatible (???)

Must have a SIM card.

Theirs don't do LTE. Must use HSPA+ (????)

So....shopping around for phones that imbecilic Luddites can use ( that would be me) and found this:-

( No...the name of it had no bearing....:laugh:)

Could I use it for their requirements? (It has pretty good battery life)

I used to be like you brother, until about 4 years ago when I got a Samsung Galaxy S5. Now....I really, really like my Galaxy S5......It's time to get with the 90's bro....:D

I looks like you're on Telus. They are phasing out their CDMA network if they haven't already. Search Kijiji for a used cell phone that is already on the Telus network. I'm pretty sure a Bell phone will work too. The last time I looked on Kijiji for cell phones, there were pages of them. And I would guess there will be even more now since it's right after Christmas and people want to unload their old one because they got a new one for Christmas.

Oh, and fwiw I've had an S7 for a long time with no battery explosions. In fact it charges faster than anything I've owned (early Motorola droids, an HTC and an LG) and it'll cast Netflix or YouTube on Chromecast for hours while you use it for internet, text, whatever.

Never gets hot. Recharges super fast, and the wireless charger is slanted at a 45 degree angle, which is perfect on a bedside table. Toss your alarm clock. Fall asleep to music or meditation stuff. Lay down and close your eyes and relax while you play music (speakers do help but a foot from your ear it is plenty loud).

Honestly, best phone I've ever owned, almost entirely because of the battery everyone said would detonate in no time. It'll do split screen, but I don't game, so I'm yet to find a use for that. Guessing games aren't a priority anyway, but dude, it'll be 2018 soon. Samsung. Do it.

I get it though. I resisted smart phones for a few years myself. And my first ones had the slide out keyboard too. Turns out when you use something intuitive every day, you get used to it quickly.

And streaming without Chromecast or similar is borderline insane. It just is. Spelling with a tv remote to find stuff is what a serial killer would do.

Okay that's my final plug for Samsung. Oh and you don't need Bluetooth headphones. You can, but I'm yet to find a reason why you would be using earbuds and not have your phone like, maybe in your pocket? That place it's always been, where you can use the controls. Not 10ft away, out of reach, and with two more things to buy and also charge up however often.

Guess I'll throw away my Shure earbuds. I might get lost in the closet and spin in circles until the wires strangle me or break. Oh wait! It's got a very short cable with an extension with an 1/8" plug!

It's almost like they made a product that works perfectly and never assumed any phone manufacturer would be crazy enough to get rid of something so standardized. Genius or just not completely stupid?

Again, some psychopath had it out for the poor 1/8", standard, never once complained about by anyone ever headphone jack and tried to pass it off as an upgrade. I don't know who it was, but they definitely know where a couple bodies are.

I had an experience in Hawaii not too long ago. We were taking a helicopter tour on the Big Island.

Just before we boarded they said if anybody has a Samsung Galaxy Note 7 ( I think it was that model...the one famous for catching fire)) they leave it at the desk or they're not going.

Go to GSM Arena & plug in those specs for a search.

tip:
HSDPA = 3.5G
UMTS = 3G

In this search I specified all with UMTS 850 - 1900, HSDPA 850 - 1900, & Android 8.0:

$99 LG Fiesta at walfart. 29.99 family mobile plan, automatic debit. I haven't turned on my desktop in six months. All bills paid in minutes. Games for waiting in lines. Talkbass whenever. Price search while you shop so you don't overspend. Flashlight, tuner, dB meter, spectrum analyzer, level, calculator, calendar, camera, music, movies: all in your pocket.


Oh, and it's a phone too.

Oh, well I have no idea about those. Tried one before I got the smaller, fits in a pocket and not a backpack, S7. You know, the normal sized phone one without a stylus, and without what I can only guess is a water cooled lithium cell, or dry ice with magnesium shavings power packs. Who knows. I heard they all exploded. Been wrong before, but the S7 is as cool as a cucumber in a rubber case running as much crap as one human can. Never been warm, even casting wedged in couches and stuff. All things my last phone would heat up from and eventually shut down. Oh, or if it was playing music in the car and in direct sunlight. Ya. My crap LG needed the AC on or a shade or something. Don't trust them.

Plus Samsung screens have only died on me once, and it was a defective TV they replaced for free. Bought it old stock off amazon. They sent workers 1.5hrs each way to my house twice. Again. Free. Since then never known their tv's to be anything short of the best, so I'm guessing my little phone screen is good for years as well.

2018 is so close. Evolve!

Ah darn! Maybe it was a bad batch. Too bad. I generally like LG products. Screens. Appliances. Those all work fine.

Ah crap. You know what? That might've been the HTC. Becoming less sure by the minute. Went through a few phones in a short period of time around then. Verizon phone insurance stopped taking my money and cancelled the policy at some point.

I definitely had an HTC that was cheap and I think lasted until it was new phone/contract time. I recant my LG story until I can be sure.

But HTC can still suck it. I'll stick by that one. Lots of folks seem to like the Google pixel phones. Never seen one and I don't know who carries them.

Anyone know why a Google phone would be superior to any quality android? Isn't that like running Windows on a Microsoft product versus anything else you can run Windows on? I don't know enough to be sure if that analogy even works.
