CENSORSHIP

GOD SAVE THE QUEEN. Boy this song got under some skin.

For a larger discussion has your band ever been censored? My first band had a song where we had to change the words for a school performance to Wicked Witch, rhymed with a word starting with letter B. Actually a few months before I joined it but the situation was local lore for a time.

Never Mind the Bollocks is the greatest album in the history of punk, due to brilliant lyrics; brilliant staging; just the right balance of top-notch playing and simple chord structure, but also Lydon's vocals had that edge that really sold it. Those were some fantastic songs, and God Save the Queen and Anarchy were the two best. Really solid work all around. Still one of my all-time favorites. My friends listened to it with their mouths open. "What is this CRAP?????" I loved it.

The amazing powers of Johnny Rotten are on display in whatever ad licensed Sid singing "My Way". At the very end, Johnny sings the last line and it changes EVERYTHING about the vibe. Sid just sounds kinda drunk/grumpy as he plods through the verse, but when John hits "They did it MYYYYY Way!!!", he sounds angry enough to chew puppies. I still love PiL, too. "Rise" is still in regular rotation in our house, as is Annalisa.

'Bullocks is seminal.

First time I played in front of an audience was in school in 1979, we played Anarchy and the guitar player sliced his finger on a string in the intro. By the time the song was over there was blood all over his guitar. Classic.

That's only Sid on "My Way"- Johnny wasn't in the Pistols when that was done. Love the irony that its in a luxury car commercial. Cash From Chaos!
