Ceramic Pickup Sting Ray 5 - did you know ?

I replied to an old post ( a big mistake here ) and ended up complaining ( again , a huge foul here) about StingRay vs Sterling Basses.
The SR has ceramic pickups in it from 1992-2007 .....it is really a Sterling Bass.
I think it is helpful for people to know this, because I has fooled twice ,hoping for a 5 string version of a Sting Ray. I know complaining here is a big problem, as you must take money from Ernie Ball or something......I think it stinks !!!!! Freedom of Speech !!!!
This thread is for people COMPLAINING about the less than advertised change and then re-change of the SR5 sound . Am I trolling if I start the post? PM me and tell me that I dont matter , dont write it on my thread that my experiences dont matter. THEY DO! FREEDOM OF SPEECH .TALK BASS DUDES!!!!

You can delete my thread and kick me out of Talk Bass , but the truth is :::::thousands of SR5 are out there with ceramic pickups , meaning ,people are being fooled all the time by buying this wierd instrument. So, seroiusly , beware if you buy a used StingRay 5 ,,,,it could be a Sterling . Too much truth for you to handle, Im sure.

Ok, everyone thinks Im totally crazy. Ill leave Talk Bass alone. I would a good bass to buy on here. Ill delete my account later today and be gone. I dont care about Ernie Ball or anyone who likes that company any longer.

as far as i know, any EB with a single pickup and the 3-way switch has always had the ceramic pickup.

You're rage quitting because no one responded to your thread between 3:33am and 8:05am?

BTW, EBMM never hid the fact that they put the ceramic pickup in the SR5 during that era, which ended 8 years ago. Maybe you should do some research before buying a used instrument?

I'm tempted to start a thread ranting that Fender is cheating me by having moved the Jazz Bass bridge pickup from 1970 - 1982. :eyebrow:

Lol, I received some negative comments from an administrator here. The basics of the message were that I was not welcome here and my experience does not matter. I paid for a bass from a member here and will leave this group once I receive it. Why waste time in situations where you are not wanted? There are other bass groups to be a part of.

Looks like I'm still getting beat down here. My point is : A StingRay 5 with ceramic pickups ain't a Sting Ray. A Sting Ray with a Sterling neck is a Slo special. I think this bass (1992-2008 Sting Ray 5) basically needs its own name. Seriously. How many dudes who want or wanted a 5 string version of thier 4 sting ray bass end up with these basses with Sterling electronics ? It's gonna keep happening. While this issue is not life changing, it's beyond my imagination that all you bass player dudes here don't understand me and simply think electronics choice in thier bass does not matter. Sorry about the angry tone if that is all you are seeing from me.

all the "CAPS!!! AND!!!" aside, it is interesting that the 'ray V really is kinda just a sterling V, you'd think there would have been a market for a straight-up stingray V with no switching and the regular 2-coil alnico pickup.

i don't see it as any kind of surprise or conspiracy though, you can look right at the pickup and tell whether it's ceramic or alnico, and the triple-coil ceramic pickup is a perfectly valid option.

Yeah, there are. And I've already seen how well that will work out for you. BTW, what happened to the neck issue you were going on about? Why aren't you posting about that?

I'm sorry, but you simply have no clue what you are talking about. In no way is the ceramic pup inferior to the Alnico. It's different. And I assert that they put the SR5 electronics into the Sterling.

The SR5 with the ceramic pup and the 3-band EQ is my favorite sounding Music Man out there. I don't care if the electronics came from Yugo (glad they didn't, but I'm trying to make a point that will probably be lost on you). And I doubt that a lot folks agree with me on that (and everyone read that last sentence, don't go on here telling me I'm crazy for that. I. Could. Care. Less. I like what I like, just like everyone else does). But you won't see me running all over Hell and Creation going on about it like a 6-year-old losing a crap-throwing contest.

So whatever else has been said about your mental state and disposition...I second it.

BTW, if that bass you are taking about is an SR5 between 1992 and 2000, lemme know. I'm looking for another one. Hope that doesn't wreck yer day (kinda).

Thanks, Geri . I get too darn mad about my music man basses. Ernie Ball only offered to sell me a replacement neck for my 1979. As you know ,lol, if musicman does something I don't like ( intentionally damaging instruments) it's my problem.
It's ok , I'll keep playing ,and I'm sorry for the angry tone. In all honesty ,no one cares about any of my music man issues and my experience won't help anyone , I have been convinced. I'll keep it to myself. Thanks again , Geri !
