Chad Michael Horne 1987-2010 - Killed by a Drunk Driver

All my life I hated drunk drivers.I drink a few times a week for a few years now.I've been drinking every night for the last ~40 days.Never ever drove a car, untill 3 weeks ago.I don't even remember some parts of the ride,I remember I almost lost control of the car.
It was too late and my bro' didn't give me a ride to the liquor store.I'm still in shock, feel terrible about what I have done, and I just read this thread.:(

I'm sure I won't be doing that again but still I made sure my bro is never going to let me drive drunk again, but I can't stop thinking what if I hit some one that night. There's no excuse for drunk driving and harming people,it just horrible...

I'm so sorry for your loss, all I can offer is my condolences.

The other thing that you can offer is to never get behind the wheel drunk again, EVER. It's not a game - lives are literally at stake. Always do the right thing - call a friend, call a cab, or just stay put. The other thing you can do is just not get loaded in the first place.

I appreciate your condolences, and I'm sorry if it appears that I'm preaching or coming off as being harsh. This has been a very tough time, and going to court earlier this week re opened the wound and the hurt for me and my family.

My heart is in my throat at this very moment. It saddens me that only a few will get this message. You see human beings are inherently stupid and the same thing that makes someone believe that they can beat a train across a railroad track, or a mother that arrives home only to find that her toddler has fallen out of the back window of her car, while she talks on her cellphone, or the carpenter that mutilates his finger on a saw not paying attention while cutting a board. I have not completely lost faith in the human race but almost. I believe all we can do is give our children the skills and tools to go out in life and survive. But there is no schooling for someone else's stupidity. My prayers will be with you for a while for your inexcusable and tragic losses. Anger has begun to set in, and I intend to pass this message to my Son and grandchildren. Please know that your message has reached some of us. Peace My Bass Brother!

Thank you. YOU are the biggest influence on your children, your family, those that you love, and all those around you. My business partner has a saying that I have passed down to my kids and friends - "If you don't do the right thing, who will?"

If sharing the pain that my family is going through can help save one life by making others think twice before doing something stupid, then some good can come out of this.

Ah well cool then, except for what happened... I found out the other day that my aunt wasn't the only member of my family that suffered ill fate because of a drunk driver. My mother's first cousin was hit by a drunk driver the day before my mom's wedding, and she was to be the maid of honor as well. The driver that hit her came up for parole here recently and needless to say most of my family will be at that hearing.

From my experience with this, if you harbor hate for him, it will make the situation much much worse. I became a different person after the accident because the death was so untimely and unexpected. Both great grandmothers were in their 90's when they passed so I was more or less ready for that, and a distant relative wasn't so bad either, but its the things you don't expect that hurt the most.

I will hopefully never ever get behind the wheel drunk again.I've been drinking since I was 16 and I got my license at 18,it was the first and the last time I drove drunk at the age of 26.

You have all the right to go harsh on me,I can not understand how you feel for sure but I have an extraordinary ability to emphatisize.Again,so sorry for your loss.

I'm bumping this for a reason.

It was 1 year ago today that my nephew and his passengers were killed by a drunk driver. His killer is still in prison awaiting trial.

I simply want all of you to think twice before you ever consider getting behind the wheel after drinking, even if it is only "a beer." It is our responsibility as entertainers, performers, parents, friends, aunts, uncles, teachers, whatever to always set the right example for all those around us. Getting wasted and putting everyone elses' lives in danger is not cool - it isn't even "metal" - it is simply selfish, irresponsible, and stupid.

If you ever see anyone that attempts to get behind the wheel after drinking, smoking weed, or other intoxicants, please do one of several things - take the keys, get someone else (or YOU) to drive them, or call the cops. You won't be considered cool, but so what. You will be saving lives.

This is a great community, and we are blessed with having the ability to do the thing we love to do so publicly. Let's use our gift to set the right example.

Wow...I believe this is my first time reading this thread. I cannot imagine the heartache you and your family must be enduring. I will keep you in my prayers.

And thank you for using your loss as a chance to get a much needed, though often ignored message out there. Drinking and driving is NEVER a good idea. I couldn't tell you how many times I've gotten behind the wheel after "just a beer," and noticed that it still took me just a split second longer than normal to notice that the light had turned red.

As forgetful as I am, I'll make it a matter of intense effort not to forget this one.

2 weeks ago from tomorrow night, the flute players girlfriend in my fiancee's band was killed. She made the mistake of getting into a car with a drunk driver who lost control around a corner and crashed into a tree. She was the only one killed, lucky for her, instantly, as her side of the car hit the tree. The driver survived and is now paralyzed from the waist down and is in jail awaiting trial on murder charges. Her funeral is later this afternoon.

Wow. That is awful. Please let them know that all of you have my prayers and support.

The driver of the car will be in jail for some time to come before trial. My nephew's killer is still in jail a year later with no trial date set yet.

There is no such thing as social or recreational drinking where driving is involved. Booze and/or drugs turn motor vehicles into guns with all chambers filled in a game of russian roulette.

Good for you. Keep it that way. You will be able to make it on many more tours to come. Thank you!

For the cost of one DUI, you could take a $50 cab ride/rides every other week for about 9 years. I got one 10 years ago, and learned my lesson. I even waited 1 1/2 hours to drive and still blew over. You are always more intoxicated than you feel.

My wife got me a cab fare coupon that I keep in my wallet, just in case..or if I have no cash, whatever. One of my other buddies went to jail for 5 months after his 3rd, and it's not fun.

I'm sure you are constantly grieving, and feel for you man. I am glad to have gotten to read this. It's my birthday today, and I will going out tonight, and safety will be a priority - I have a daughter to stay alive for.

Wishing you all the best man.

Have fun, but stay safe. Since it's your birthday, maybe one of your buds can give you the gift of being your designated driver.

Your wife sounds like a very wise woman!

I read through this thread and was surprised I didn't remember seeing it last year. My condolences.

Stories like this are an embarrassing reminder of one time that I was incredibly stupid and drove when I was so drunk I had no idea how I got home when I woke up the next day. That was many years ago and yet it scared me so much that even now I hardly ever drink at all, even at home. And if I'll be driving, then nothing at all. I know I was extremely lucky and I never want to tempt fate like that again.

I hope time eventually helps you and your family to heal.
