Chain order question!!

HI guys, long time member , not an active poster. I have a chain order question. I play using clean tones only and I only have 3 pedals. Confused as to the order I need. i have a Tuner, PJB pe5 pre, and a compression pedal. I am running them TUNER, PREAMP, COMP is that correct or should it be Tuner, comp and then pre? any help is appreciated.

Functionally, you'll likely want a consistent volume hitting the preamp. Most basses will have less oomph coming from the higher strings (D & G) so the compressor will help mitigate that. The front of my chain is a Zoom MS-70CDR+, pulling duty as a tuner, noise gate, compressor, and sometimes chorus or flanger.

There's no "correct" order. I usually do tuner, comp, pre, but there's no reason why you can't do any combination of those. You may get a different result than I would, but maybe that's the "right" order for the sound you want.

Certainly the tuner first. Probably the compressor next, for the reasons given, but that assumes your using a preamp pedal that's acting as a DI or at least being used like the preamp of an amp.

If you're using the preamp with a passive bass to make it feel like an active bass, and you're using an amp or DI-ing from a socket on amp itself, then you may want the compressor at the end.
