CHALLENGE: Longest Previously Owned Pedal List

Ive never sold one. Lost a couple. Have around 50. Oldest extant is a boss ft2 dynamic filter which I love. Latest is a boss gt1b mfx. I don’t use the dynamic filter much just because I want to preserve it.

I just counted and realized I have sold or returned 26 pedals in 2023 alone. I have only been into effects pedals for a little over a year. But man I have cycled through a lot of pedals. It made me realize that you guys who have been collecting for years must have an insane list of previously owned pedals.

CHALLENGE:

Post…

1. A list of all pedals you have previously owned (that you can remember).

2. A picture of your current pedalboard or collection.

- Marshall Guv'nor - first batch made, gifted to a friend.
- Compressor of unknown type - no idea what happened to it.
- Award-Session JD-10 gifted to a friend as I have two others.
- Marshall DRP-1 - do idea what I did with it

None are bass pedals...

That's it for discrete pedals, the rest have been multis.

- ART reverb unit
- Korg A5 - too much hiss
- Boss ME-6B - tech moved on
- Boss ME-8B - the 6B was better
- Korg G5 - didn't think is was all that great
- Zoom DSP rack mount - unwieldy and no cab sim for PA connection so not that helpful live without the DRP-1 or something similar
- Korg AX1B - cute but harsh sounding
- Behringer V-Amp - handy for guitar but loaned out
- Digitech RP-10 - better guitar sounds for guitar moments

I seem to have kept a lot of stuff...

I’ll count myself lucky that I really don’t give a darn about pedals & effects. I don’t think I’ve ever sold a pedal, and my collection (including guitar) is less than 12. Generally I just buy them and stick them in the closet, rarely to be seen again.

My current pedal board:

I remember reading a quote from @johnk_10 about how many pedals he had and was awed. I also print-screened it and use it as motivation/justification.

I’m pretty sure @kranahan, @labeledbass, @darkhalf and @TOGNA will have crazy lists (if they’ve kept a list).

I’ll try to contribute later this evening.

Sorry to disappoint but I don’t keep a list of the ones I moved along. My collection’s currently at a modest 150. :)

For years, I ran only a Boss TU-2 that was gifted to me used by a friend. Eventually, I build an expanded board with 9 MXR bass related pedals that saw their untimely end due to a power surge from a lightning strike that managed to melt the wall wart, power supply and damage about half of the pedals in either quirky, small ways or complete failure. Of those, I opted to put new PCB's into the MXR Bass Compressors (my personal preference and still in use) and sold the remaining pedals with full disclosures and documentation/descriptions of the problems and cost of factory repair.

After a few more years of running just a tuner (upgraded to a Boss TU-3 to replace the cooked TU-2), I opted to build a new board. The new pedalboard is...robust and well protected.

A bit excessive for most occasions, but capable of routing three instruments (the Gigrig 321 has adjustable pre-amps for each channel) or two instruments and a condenser microphone for my bari-sax, flute or whatever. So, on-board 48v phantom power, 3x MIDI outs for integration to lighting controls or clock syncs with other MIDI equipped boards and a couple of SA Neuro hubs routed to an un-pictured SA expression pedal. There is a sneaky ABY in the back for isolating the Beat Buddy output from the rest of the chain if I want to run it on a separate board channel or combine it for bare solo work. Also, not in the photo is a Boss volume pedal. I did a lot of research on my purchases, so there hasn't been pedal turnover, at least since the initial build (an EHX Pitchfork was upgraded to an EHX Intelligent Harmony Machine, but no others). There are at least three redundant pedals that could be readily replaced once I have the SA patches sorted out, but I am happy with the options. Those three tentatively available slots have not driven me to act upon GAS for a couple of years...but there are plenty of options left unexplored before I start hunting new sounds.

Sitting on the sidelines are a couple spare tuners (Boss TU-3 and Peterson Strobo-Stomp), a Boss RC-20 of questionable provenance and operation and a wee Ditto looper that always seems to be handy to have around.
