Challenge: Prince and pauper rigs

A guitar magazine I used to read had a cool column about how to sound like someone on a prince's budget ($5,000) or a pauper's budget ($500 to $700).

I always thought it was interesting to see what was essential to the rig and compare the items.

Anyone want to give it a shot? Ground rule: Only new items, too many variables on the used market.

So let's start easy. What would be in the James Jamerson rig on prince's budget (~$5,000) and how would you get the Motown sound more modestly ($500-$700).
