Changes and life lessons for 2014

It was a good year for me.
1. No new musical equipment
2. Re-did my office/rehearsal space
3. Improved my bass playing by practicing with a metronome and drum machine. I am getting better at holding the band together with a good rocking rhythm. I love it when I look out and see people in the band and the audience shaking it in time with my playing.
I also got even closer to my 7-year old grandson and that is great thing.
I have gotten a little better about shying away from taking on responsibility and/or leadership. I don't have any titles these are just organic opportunities to serve others.
Got rid of more emotional junk and physical junk that holds me down.
Made some new friends here on TB.
My love for my wife keeps getting deeper after 33 years. That blows my mind because I keep think I can't possibly love her anymore than I already do.
I also pissed some people off this year. I am still learning about when to be quiet and when to speak up. Also trying to get better about how I communicate. With that came a greater understanding that not all conflict is bad. Sometimes it is better to get it out there and over with. In at least two instances screaming matches have given me the opportunity to grow closer to people.

What about you? How are you treating the word? :)

Don't forget to keep having fun and rocking in 2015! :bassist:

Slo - You're not getting older - you're getting better.

Congrats on all the positives from '14.
May '15 be even better.

Mrs tangent and I are coming up on our 33rd in February.
We try to live modestly, peacefully & pretty low-key. Have for decades.

'14 was a wash for me. Nothing bad. Nothing outstandingly good. Nothing special to report for 2014. Status quo pretty much on all fronts all year long. Wrote and recorded a few tunes in the home studio. I did acquire a new instrument or two..
Just keepin' the ship steady. No real rough waters either.

Years go by so fast these days.
We generally live by the seasons anymore.

Have been in a solid act for a year now. Did about 40 shows in '14. That's after about 3 years in the CL wilderness looking for something. Gotten back into good physical shape graduating to big boy plates for squats. A first for me coming back from a hellish cancer.
I am smarter and have learned some hard lessons of which the wisdom hopefully helps me better recognize similar situations in the future and better handle them.

The wife said I can renew my month-to-month agreement into our 23rd year.

As kids get older, they get even more expensive.

2014 for the most part has been a great year.
- did some aerobatics over the Alps with a good buddy of mine
- Took the Miata out on a race track and had a gas
- Went to Canada to see family for the first time 18 months due to illness
- Went flying low (300 feet) over the French countryside in HB-RAO (Google Image it)
- Went to the Warwick Bass Camp and met some great people (That includes you Tom Bowlus, Ed Friedland, Jon Liebman, Henry 8x8)
- Took my 26 year old daughter to Lugano, Switzerland for a long weekend in the Miata, driving through the winding roads in the Alps.
- Spent a living, caring year with my life partner, Jane. We enter our 28th married year in 2015.
- Spent lots of time walking Ben, my Lab, walking in the woods enjoying life.

All of this while living with an incurable cancer. There is so much to appreciate in life, and it's all around us for us to enjoy. It's all about how you approach it all.

All the best to everyone in 2015. It will be great.

I am humbled by the posts from P.Aaron and bmc. You two guys really do rock.

Everybody is struggling with something. Everybody. We tend to rank ourselves when seeing others go through frightening and difficult challenges. But, whatever each person is dealing at the moment could very easily be the biggest thing for the. The response we should all have is compassion towards each other. We're all in this together.
