I also just want to make clear that I would not have even bothered giving my critical 2 cents if I didn't think it was good music to begin with. Take it all with a grain of salt, of course.
I also agree with above poster about acoustic guitars - always mic them in studio environments, IMO. Piezo/preamp is an uphill battle to sound good, to my ears anyway.
And yeah, tons of classic rock guitar cabs were mic'd with SM57's as well.
There is a Youtube channel, "Circle of Tone", that guy is amazing. He attempts to reverse engineer (electric) guitar tones, sometimes quite successfully.
