Changing speakers...cross-over question

I have a 4*10 cabinet that currently runs at 8ohms - 400watts. I have 4*10 speakers that were in a cabinet that ran at 4ohms - 1000watts. I would like to change out the speakers in the 8ohm cabinet with the other ones.

Is there any thing I need to consider with the cross-over or electronics when making the change? I think I should be able to drop the other ones in. :hmm:

The speakers and the box where...or should have been...made to work together. Just changing out speakers is going to affect a lot more than the impedance. Likely sound worse, unless you're lucky enough to roll a 7 or 11.

Doesn't that depend on what type of crossover is in the cab? If it's just a typical high-pass filter for a tweeter with the woofers running "full range," then changing the woofers wouldn't do anything to the crossover.

True, though based on his having asked the question I doubt the OP has the technical skills to know what's in there.

Thanks for the input guys..

I think my question has already been answered but I'll give more details about my plans.

The 8ohm cab is a Hartke 4.5xl, works perfectly. The speakers / drivers are out of a Schroeder cabinet which was 4ohm.

The Schr drivers were damaged during shipping (too long of a story to post here) but I think can be salvaged. The magnet(s) were knocked partially lose from the frame (basket). I was going to throw them away but repaired one and it does work. I am confident the others can be repaired as well.

I currently have a GenzBE1200 ran into a BagEnd 210 (4ohm). I would like to install the schroeder drivers into the hartke cab (I do prefer paper over aluminum) for a matching cab to go with the BE.

I know I could use the hartke as is to pair with the BE but I do always experiment, pretty handy with a soldering iron, blow torch, and IEDS:eek: and figured why not try it with drivers that are questionable anyways.

But I DO NOT want to damage the cross-over of the Hartke which is why I asked.
