Charles Berthaud and Rick Beato

I am not actually a fan of Charles Berthaud’s videos, but if I remember correctly, he was a student of the late Jim Stinnett at Berklee.

Jim made bass videos that were more to my liking:

Because of Jim I knew Who Charles was. He is a great player, why would't he, being a former student of Jim.

I watched it yesterday and loved it. I agree with Rick that Charles' playing is flashy, but always very musical.

There was a mutual respect in the interview. Charles is obviously accomplished and confident, but not cocky. He knows a lot about Youtubing too.

He’s done some vids where he is quite comical. Almost making fun of himself.

He definitely is the guy you want to showcase your products, everything sounds awesome with his chops combined with the ability to really show what a product can do.
I just saw his video with the new Pog III, want!
The stuff he's doing with Steven Wilson is also badass.

Nice video! Does anyone know what strings Charles uses? I see red silk on the tuners, so maybe rotosound? I read he uses GHS but they don't have red silk, if I'm not mistaken.

I've watched an ungodly number of his videos, and whenever he gets a new bass, it has strings with silks on them. About a month later, the bass has been restrung with silk-less strings, his favoured GHS Bass Boomers. The Schecter comes new with EB strings, so they might still be on that example.

I've been watching Rick's vids for several months and even bought a package of his video & interactive instructional material, since he seemed to know what he was talking about & it was on sale.

The Charles Berthoud interview might be what prompted me to break out my gear and start playing bass again.

I'll never be as good as Charles, but that's not the point, at least not for me.

Isn't it strange that Rick has never played upright bass in his videos? I thought he had a degree in classical bass.
Or am I dead wrong?

Charles legacy is not just the fact that he can play bass well and at a virtuoso level, but he is inspiring a whole new generation of bassists who watch him on social media to take up the instrument.
