  1. Has anyone heard of charlie hunter? wow. how come nobody talks about this guy much? he plays he 8 string bass, and he is awesome! I just bought his new cd the other day. just one question. does he play the leads and bass lines at the same time or is it just a recording trick??

Well...one reason might be he plays an eight string GUITAR, not bass. Yet, nonetheless, he is an incredible musician (one of my faves) who lays down some wicked bass lines from the low end of that gtr...and yes, he does it all at once (no tricks!). He does this live in concert both solo and with his group...and quite a few of his cds are "live w/o overdubs".

BTW he uses a custom made Novax fanned fret 8string gtr which does feature 3 bass strings for the low register.

it may be an 8 string guitar but those are real bass strings and real bass lines. the guy is solid and sounds legit on both instruments. what's really fun about his cd's is how much growth you can hear in his playing from his first cd to today.
