Charvel Pro Mod San Dimas worth it?

IMG_3990.jpegIMG_3992.jpeg

Bought my PJ IV spring of 2022 preamp was useless beyond noisy not grounded, installed Audere classic pre-amp vast improvement. But the pickups are still noisy at times. MY guitar tech explained its due to how it's wound and type materials used. Considering installing Relentless or Quarter Pounders. But first I'm trying Colbalt Flats to see if helps.
Did the Cobalt Flats help?

The Colbalt flats added something unexpected
I rather enjoy these strings very surprised how well rounded they are but the pickups I may swap them out at some point.
Mine with Cobalt flat 2814 set too, but move to NYXL 45-100 couple months ago and i found the E string sound much solid tight with Cobalt flat ! Will moving back while NYXL go dead....

Hey all, does anyone know what year the Charvel Pro-Mod San Dimas PJ IV came out, I'm thinking 2021 but I could be wrong, and what year they stopped making the Mystic Blue and Green and White ones, my favorite colors, not a big fan of the new colors...also for those of you who replaced the pre amp in it does the tone controls work in passive mode....

Mine are full passive, Volume / Blend .

For those who went with the Adorama deal, how were the frets?

I saw some mention of needed fretwork. Filing down fret sprout is one thing I have no experience with. So, really thinking about snatching one at that price but a little leery.

I replaced preamp original preamp with 2 band then made control to a neck volume, bridge volume, master tone, bass, treble

I didn’t buy from adorama but as an owner of san Dimas bass v, I think Charvel’s polishing frets was not bad.
but their leveling was not good in terms of quality.
So I had a skilled technician do the fret leveling.
Frets on san dimas bass aren’t small so you can find a trustworthy technician and have him do it. Of course you can do it by yourself if you are bravely

Discussion from the spring deal said fretwork was good. But the wiring was apparently problematic for someone.

I got mind a few years back. I replaced the Preamp with Audere Classic. The hardware has been solid no need to replace or have any concern there. Stays in tune very well even though it lives on a rack. The neck is absolutely fantastic had no fret issues.

Bought one 2 days ago. It is going back. Worst fret sprout I have ever seen. Like playing a piece of wood wrapped in barb wire...VERY disappointed. Beautiful and flawless except the neck. Must have spent some time in severe heat. One of the $499 Adorama black ones that were on sale in August.

Just a friendly reminder to everyone: There is a trimpot on the preamp. This controls the overall gain.

IME, basically all of the preamp noise can be dialed out simply by lowering the gain on this so that the level of the pickups when passive is the same as the level when the preamp is active.
Bumping an old post. Thanks for this info looking at a 1st version at a good price.
