I've seen quite a few bassists complain about the noise on earlier models, but it seems the issue's been taken care of judging by recent reviews. So I've been researching the Charvel Pro Mod San Dimas bass. Lobster's review clearly calls out how horrible the onboard pre-amp is, function wise as well as how noisy it is. However reading and watching other reviews (such as the renowned German magazine Gitarre & Bass, Bass The World) there is no mention of excessive noise or that the pre-amp is in any way 'bad'. I really like the features of the San Dimas like the fast and roasted maple neck, Di Marzio Pickups and that it's an active PJ setup for under 1k$. So I'm wondering if Lobster received a dud and if there are any owners here that could share their experience? Having to go through a shielding exercise to get the noise under control is a major turn-off for me.
