Double Bass Cheap 4$ DIY Pickup for the enthusiasts

Hey man, nice looking pickup! It even has your name written on it. Timo! How much would you charge to make one for me?

Well, if it is him, hard to see how he could be "in the queue for 30 years." :)

Charge to make one? See those vultures overhead? Those are patent attorneys. :D

(Yeah, yeah, I know you were joking...) :)

I could not be any calmer! I just said that I have re-invented the wheels! Meaning that I invented jack ****! It is only special to me cos I made it! I also built a preamp for it only God knows why when I have a Fishman Pro-Eq platinum. It was a rainy day and I was bored. Instead of beating me up can anyone tell me of a piezzo other than Realist, Underwood, FC, wondering about BARCUS BERRY! something that blends well and dont have to use adjusters!

I've used a Link Removed with great success on my bass....

After hearing the demo provided I think my search is over too! This pickup sounds amazing with all the tonal qualities I missed prior to hearing what this pickup can do! Definitely saving up for one! Thank you mate, my DIY pickup is a joke compared to what I just heard on the Demo site!!!! :hyper: Tim

Have you tried the BassBalsereit Aktiv or Studio? I've gone through what you have also and am finally done with my Piezo search. It's tonally adjustable to blend between horizonal and lateral bridge vibrations. Also it has an integrated active electronics inside of the XLR jack and is powered via phantom power. Very well constructed.

I would say that it's one of the more expensive Piezo's, which is one of the reasons it's not so popular, but it's worth it. YMMV. For reference, I paid about $650 for the Studio version.

P.S. $100 a gig? You should demand more. From time of leaving your home at 6pm to arriving home at 4am, you're pretty much getting minimum wage at $100 a night.

Hi Peter! After reading so many great reviews about Planet Wing pickup I decided to get one! I cant wait mate I have payed for it last week and has to get here before next wednesday cos I got a gig with a Dixieland Jazz band and although I dont mind my Quasimodo pickup at home it has low output, so crossing my fingers!!!!! If it worked for you and so many others it should work for me! Thank you again for the advice! Tim :bassist:

Got my Planet Wing and must tell you mate that I am happy!!!! My faith
in piezo completely restored and I strongly recommend it to everyone to try! I am lucky cos I mingle with quite a few double bass players and we do exchange ideas and try each others bass and setups! I have some friends already ordering PW! My 4$ home made pickup is still bit of a freak cos ONLY with the help of my Fishman Pro EQ the silly thing still sounds great!! Someone asked me to make one but I said "go and buy a PW! Bugger me if I sit there for hours again making another one! I did try to make one with a double piezo but one side was louder than the other so I never finished it! May be one day! But for now PW rules! Thank you for bringing it to my attention!!!!!!! :)
