cheap DI vs. expensive DI

They sure can be bad but some can do a fine job down at the bottom end. You just need to know where to look.

This works great for a utility active DI

And this is a great, simple 2 channel that can also be used as a splitter/combiner when needed. I use this one for keyboards or drum machines pretty regularly.

That's actually a pretty good DI and is transformer isolated on the output.
