Cheap(ish) beginner leftie bass..

oh ya neon, thats the first bass I started on as well. No horns (wings ) in the way at all and still have it. Cheap and easy to reverse the nut for those days I get in the mood to play with the strings on normal or reverse.

hmm those Epiphones look quite nice, really... definitely a possibility! haha!
For amps I've been looking at the ones by Orange http://orangeamps.com/products.asp?Action=View&ID=95. But I'm not really sure if they're worth the money.
Else there is the Roland Micro cube (bass rx) - but I'm not sure how much it costs.
Trying to get something that's not too big yet decent (living in a dorm). Oh, related to my living in a dorm, they don't allow instruments here, so I'm guessing I'll be playing using headphones most of the time. Definitely want to get a decent amp anyway though.
I'm open to suggestions! haha!

Anything else I should look into getting? So far this is my list:

But really, I'm glad stringing a righty lefty and turning it around and all that stuff is not completely crazy and impossible. I was a bit worried (to be honest) about having to settle for "what I could get" instead of getting a bass I really felt was right in my heart (cheesy!!!).


Uuuum... also, is considering a fretless too much right now? I'm just starting out, so don't wanna kill my want-to-learn-to-play mojo but... I like the way fretless sounds... but is it a bit... overkill?

The Orange Crush amps are pretty cool. It should sound really nice.

Your accessories list looks pretty complete...just keep it simple at first. I'd say NO to your fretless idea for now....haha.

You'll have a working and very good sounding rig to start off. Just add and upgrade things as your skills improve.

OOOOH look at all those Lefty basses that are ONLY good for lefty's who play normally, almost makes me want get out the c.card and buy a couple from Rondo. -- NOT!!!:D

you ever give one of those to anyone who plays righty and laugh as they try to play the strings upside down?

I think the posts that all of us have posted for Cyne in the past couple days has shown there is a lot of stuff out there, and she feels less pressure about getting something that is comfortable, and will work for her.

neonrust: I'm in Saitama! think it might be a bit far to travel to Yokosuka for music gear shops (not saying that it won't EVER happen though)....

amimbari: you're right! At first I was like darn (was gonna put a stronger word but I've been told to "watch my language" hahahahaha) ok anyway was like "darn I have to settle for either the Fernandes or Danelectro and while they are nice I just wish I could get a...." and well you guys've sorta proved to me that I don't have to settle, which makes me so happy. This is my first bass and it's supposed to be my friend (haha), so I don't really want to LEARN to love it, I want to love it from the beginning and want to pick it up and play it every time I look at it!

Dunno if I wrote it before but gonna write it again: gonna go to the used music instrument shop again tomorrow and check out their basses (again). While I sorta looked at them all for a while today I wasn't really CONCENTRATING because I figured they were out of the question being righties and all... so.. tomorrow! probably gonna check out the other music shops in shinjuku while I'm there.. heh..
whoa! deciding to (maybe) just go for a righty has seriously opened up a whole new world to me! Thanks! :bassist:

AAH dying a bit over here!
So I went to this used instrument shop today and I found a really nice bass. Fretless, righty, but it was so perfect (at least to my untrained eye). The price was ALL RIGHT as well (a tad expensive but ok..). So I decided to buy it! THEN the guy in the shop checked it through. And there seemed to be a little problem with one of the tuning knobs (it made that scratching noise sound through the amp when he turned it) but it was a minor thing (at least imo). He took a while to get done and I looked around in the shop a bit more to pass time.
Then he was gone all of a sudden, along with the bass. I was like *** where did he go. I figured he'd just gone to get a gig bag or sth. After a while he came back and told me that there was a problem with the bridge, and that they were looking at it now but it might take some time.
So they're gonna call me tomorrow and let me know about the bass.
So disappointed though. I was pumped about that bass and then... ah, the disappointment!

In other news I've decided to go for a fretless even though it might be a bit much to start out with. If I can't get the one I tried today I'm gonna see what else the world has to offer (haha) and take it from there. But fretless has won my heart.

Is Rondo bad?

I like this one Link Removed...

I was surprised how natural fretless felt, really... are there any major drawbacks to choosing fretless over fretted? other than fretted might be easier in the beginning of course....

I don't know. I only know I don't like the SX stuff; the bass you're looking at is a Brice, and I've yet to run across one of those. If you want a fretless, I do have an extra one lying around....

beating up on the SX owners..that will give you a lot less flack than saying the F word in the same sentence instead of SX.

Brice sold a cheaper version of my Dillion bass back when Dillion was selling them made from the same factory. I checked out a white one that was truly identical to mine - set neck joint and all. Dillion used different electronics, and charged more, and sold less. ( I'm glad for rarity rights )

Dan, she actually might like a fretless as long as the board has lines or dots on it still for reference in the beginning stages.

HEY CYNE.....

what type of music are you going to be playing? - sometimes that can also be a big contributing factor on what you like,need, or something that will give you the best of both worlds for sound, and playability of what you want to do.
