Cheap Pedalboard Case/Bag Recommendations

Hi folks,

There must be an option I'm missing here. I have a Pedaltrain Metro 24, which was $120 including a bag/case.

A few months ago, my normally very-well-behaved cat got spooked and peed in the bag. Thinking I could replace it on the cheap, after a failed attempt at cleaning it out, I tossed the bag.

A new bag is $80 plus shipping from Pedaltrain, not much less than the cost of a new board.

Anyone have a cheaper or better option for a 24x8 pedalboard? I don't love the idea of continuing to carry my pedalboard around unprotected, but I also don't love the idea of paying eighty dollars and change for a tiny little bag. I'm not rough on my gear, I just don't want my stuff to get bumped in transit.

Thanks!

At this point it might be worth a trip to a store like Walmart, Big Lots, or Ocean State Job Lot. They sometimes have cases that are between a big laptop and a small duffel bag and might serve the purpose, albeit maybe not with a custom fit.

Did you try online sites like Gator*, or photography supply sites? I'd also search Amazon for equipment bags or similar; it'll probably let you specify dimensions. You might get close, or better.

Let us know what you find!

*Road Runner makes at least one but I'm not sure if its dimensions are good for you. I've used this one AS a board, velcroing my few pedals to it (is that another option for you?): Road Runner Pedalboard All-In-1 Gig Bag

If there is a retail outlet that handles band/orchestral instruments, or a music school nearby, check with them to see if they have any cheap or used violin/viola cases of the plastic variety. While there are some expensive, highly protective models out there, these would be similar to budget Gator guitar/bass cases(but nowhere near SKB level)…

This obviously fits a Metro 24 with a bit of additional wiggle room on the width. You would have to pry out the form-fitted styrofoam/lining for the violin(but be careful, or you might bend/warp the aluminum lip), and then adhere some shallow foam on the inside. No, it wouldn’t survive an 4x10 crunching down on it, but it still offers a fair amount of protection, and being relatively light weight, would be handy for transport.
Otherwise, scour the thrift shops/flea markets/antique malls for old luggage and scientific/camera gear cases.
