The Biyang Rat clone is purportedly quite good; and there's a bunch of non-chromium apeyums too...

The first series of Danelectros from the 90's can be picked up dirt cheap used. They all sound fantastic.

Careful with the plastic input jacks and knobs though if drunks are going to be walking all over your pedalboard.

The "FAB" series was decent too, and fantastic platforms for modding (if you're into that sort of thing). They come in at pretty cheap used prices... I often see them around $20.

Really...prince uses the fab tone? I never knew that. for the price, danelectro makes great sounding pedals.

The joyo chorus sounds great, just don´t know what to get, the analog or the future. Although as TheSeagots have stated, the Chorus from Digitech sounds great. I want to use it more with my fretless.

You can't really go wrong with either joyo chorus pedals. they provide great chorus sounds for the price. I use to own a digitech bass chorus long ago. it was a good chorus pedal. had that along with my digitech bass driver(which I still own). it's a shame these pedals are now discontinued.

Valeton also has great pedals. A bit more expensive than your 20-30 bucks reference, but also mooer is more expensive than that (at least new ones).
I really like the Valeton OC-10, it's a OC-2 clone and a really sounding one. Also the Valeton CH-10 is a great clone of the Boss CE-2 that's a classic chorus pedal used by so many great bassplayers.
If you're into phaser the Joyo Vintage Phase is a great clone of the MXR Phase 90, and I've ordered the Kokko phaser to try it also.
The Mosky XP Booster is a great EP boost clone with the internal trims and the possibility to run it at 18v also.

Afaik, Prince used a boss DS2. Rhonda Smith (bassist during the Musicology days) used the fab tone on her bass. Possibly Ida Neilsen from 3rd Eye Girl too.

*EDIT* Here is P playing Ida's bass at a show. You can clearly see the FabTone on her board between the POG and the bass crybaby.

Just a thought, you might want to look at the multi’s from any of the manufacturers mentioned that have them, for best bang for buck, although most are guitar oriented. Mooer’s Redtruck, Nux Cerberus, and the like. Valeton has the Dapper Bass unit. It would still take some research.

Cool...my brother and I have been prince fans for a long time. he makes phenomenal music.

That's a lot of biyang pedals there. I use to own a biyang metal end. it was a pretty cool distortion pedal. at one point, I was curious about the biyang aqua chorus. I can imagine how cool it sounds on bass.

This is probably one of the most cloned/modified circuits in effect history (To be fair, it also happens to be a modded version of the Distortion Plus). The circuit has been used in many pedals that get far more praise than the 250 ever seems to get.

The exact circuit is used as the main distortion stage of the original Klon, the Klon just adds a buffer for a cleaner signal and a tone stack for mid shaping. (Fairly easy mods to drop into the 250 if you DIY)

The Fulltone OCD "TB's Favorite" is literally just 2 DOD250's stacked into each-other with the clipping diodes removed from the second stage and a tone stack to adjust the mids.

The RAT and all of its counterparts are heavily based on the DOD250, just with some tweaks to allow for more gain and tone shaping.

You can often find the 250 online for around $40.

(If you DIY, For some added flexibility, these pedals really benefit from adding a BMP tone stack to the output of the pedal. Its a simple DIY mod that takes a couple minutes to finish, but really makes the pedal come to life on the bass... If you really want to get fancy, you can even add a clean blend)

Some of the buyer reviews complain that the wet signal lags behind the dry, and the latency gets worse in the octave ranges. I'm slightly tempted anyway though, because it sounds like one of those cheap effects that suck at replicating an expensive effect but can be useful as their own idiosyncratic thing. The Fox Music store on Aliexpress has an 11.11 discount of $27.

For cheap and to me pretty good sounding are those Joyo mini pedals. I wanted a Delay, and always thought considering I never used one and wanted something of an ad, I bought the quattro by JOYO. I was very pleased.
For someone getting into the pedal world and it can get very expensive, I would had started with a company which has a pretty good reputation and some very interesting reviews for pedals this cheap and very small.
